WRDA Recruiting for Two Posts!

WRDA are currently recruiting for the following two posts:
  1. Communications and Membership Worker
  2. Data Entry Administrator
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced people to assist us in developing and implementing WRDA’s communication & membership and data administration activities.
Full details and application packs can be downloaded from the website. Alternatively, you can apply in writing, enclosing a large self-addressed envelope to: The Finance and HR Manager, Women’s Resource and Development Agency, 6 Mount Charles, Belfast, BT7 1NZ.
 
Closing date for receipt of applications is no later than 4.00pm on 23rd October 2015. Interviews will be held week beginning 2nd November 2015. These posts are funded to March 2017 and will be renewed subject to securing further funding.
They are part-funded by the Department of Social Development (DSD) under its Regional Support for Women in Disadvantaged and Rural Areas, Public Health Agency (PHA), and the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS).

People and Communities Workshop

On Wednesday 16th September, WRDA held an information/workshop day on Big Lottery Fund’s new programme, People & Communities. Norrie Breslin (BIG’s Head of Policy & Learning) discussed criterion for the new programme, which will be launched in January 2016.
Norrie was also keen to gather the views of the 15 people in attendance, specifically on how BIG could improve the way they do things and make it easier for potential applicants to make successful applications. The information workshop was followed by an ‘idea generating’ discussion. Following on from the event, attendees were sent a copy BIG’s strategic framework. Women's Sector Lobbyist Update

New Women's Sector Lobbyist Ellen Finlay has been hard at work over the past month to ensure that women’s issues and views are effectively positioned and communicated to politicians and policy makers. Details of her latest work can be found below:
On top of this, the Assembly Update is back! Check out our website here to read an overview of what has been happening in the Assembly with information on Oral Assembly Questions, Written Assembly Questions, Motions and Evidence to Committees. The Update will be sent out monthly with issues of relevance to gender equality and issues of interest to the wider women’s sector.

WRDA attends NIACE Four Nation's Conference

WRDA attended the NIACE (National Institute of Adult Continuing Education) four nation’s conference, "Realising Impact: Making a Difference through Adult Learning" in London from 9th-11th Sept.
The conference brought together delegates across Great Britian, Ireland and Europe representing government, business, education providers, teachers and funders discussing and sharing information under the following themes: digital skills & inclusion, the citizens’ curriculum, family learning & excluded groups and young adult employability. It was a very worthwhile experience and will inform the Women’s Regional Consortium in measuring and evidencing impact of practice and programmes.

WRDA attends Bank of England Interest Rates meeting

WRDA attended a meeting in NICVA on Thursday 17th September along with representatives from the community & voluntary sector. Andy Haldane, Chief Economist at the Bank of England, explained to the grouping that interest rates are set by the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), who the nine members of the MPC are and the processes involved in reaching their decision.
All representatives were able to discuss the key issues within their communities and Anne Mc Vicker reflected the views and concerns of women within the Women’s Regional Consortium and the wider women’s sector. Anne outlined the vital services provided by women and how they are being disproportionately threatened by the current spate of funding cuts. Read more.

WRDA Health Programmes Available

WRDA is currently providing training programmes across Northern Ireland. The Breast, Cervical and Bowel Screening
Awareness Training Programme takes place over three two-hour sessions and is available to individuals and organisations working with hard to reach groups. WRDA also has funding to run our Parents Promoting Sexual Health Programme in the Belfast and Northern Trust areas. WRDA Training & Development Coordinator Isobel Loughran recently promoted the BCB programme at a Women's Information Northern Ireland ((WINI) Health Awareness Event on Tuesday 8th September. You can view her interview with NVTV below (3:33-4:32m) on the importance of women taking leadership over their own health.

Abortion Support Network seeking volunteers

The largely volunteer-led organisation Abortion Support Network is seeking dedicated volunteers to help them provide support to women across Ireland and NI in need of an abortion. Outreach, fundraising
