Bowel Cancer Awareness Month
Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in Northern Ireland and over 400 people die from the disease each year. However, the good news is that early detection can make a real difference as to whether someone with bowel cancer survives.

We know that cancer, particularly bowel cancer, is not something that many of us want to think or talk about, but it is important to know that it can be treated very successfully if identified early.

WRDA deliver a bowel screening awareness session as part of our Breast Cervical and Bowel Screening Awareness Programme

WRDA Programmes are delivered by experienced trainers, qualified to Level 3 in Training and Development through WRDA’s Community Facilitators Training Programme, and provide employment for local women whilst building Community Capacity.

If you are in contact or associated with a local community or women’s group that would benefit from this training, feel free to get in touch with Katherine Robertson by calling 028 9023 0212 or by emailing for further details.
WRDA Respond to Department of Justice Consultation on Domestic Abuse Offence & Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme
After consulting with our members WRDA took the opportunity to respond to the consultation on Domestic Abuse Offence & Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme. WRDA fully supports the response made by the Women’s Aid Federation Northern Ireland, particularly their evidence base which has been derived from consultation with local Women’s Aid groups. To read the full response click here.

We also wish to thank all those who participated in our workshop on March 24th.
Women's Manifesto Launch Fermanagh

On Tuesday the 5th of April, this years Women's Manifesto was launched in Fermanagh House, after successful launches in Belfast, Derry/Londonderry and Cookstown.

All political parties were invited to attend with representatives sent from SDLP, Sínn Féin, and Green Party. The event was chaired by WRDA Board Member Eithne McNulty while we also heard speeches from Anne Mc Vicker (Women's Policy Group Representative and WRDA Director) and Debbie Donnelly (Commissioner).

Each political representative was given three minutes each to respond  to the manifesto before the floor was opened to questions from the audience which sparked interesting debate.

Thank you to all who attended and again to the Women's Policy Group for their hard work.

Women Speak Out on Community Planning Report Launch

The Women’s Resource & Development Agency hosted a series of events for women to help inform the local Community Planning process. For us it was imperative that women become involved to help define the consultative and engagement process and ensure that their voices are respectfully heard and reflected in the outcomes of each Council.

This report will be launched at Belfast City Hall on the 27th of April.

WRDA Staff and Board Look to the Future
This month we had the pleasure of having Clare Cuthbert from Community Change facilitate a second session on Developing a Fundraising Strategy for WRDA Staff and Board Members.

We were split into groups and encouraged to think outside the box before producing some great and exciting ideas for the future of WRDA!

We shall not reveal anymore, but, watch this space!
