Is Virtual Reality a New Humanitarian Paradigm or More Augmented Hype?

San Francisco - January 31 - RSVP Now
Augmented reality and full-on virtual reality can improve social mission organizations' fundraising efforts. The virtual reality film Clouds Over Sidra, about a Syrian refugee in Jordan, let potential donors step into the life of a young girl as she explores a refugee camp, helping to raise $3.8 billion for UNICEF, nearly twice the amount that was projected.

However, we have yet to find out if virtual reality can do more than just please the donor. Its been critical in documenting and sharing human rights abuses in places from Myanmar to Standing Rock, but can it really improve lives, communities, and lead to more inclusive, improved policies that protect and empower people around the world?

Please RSVP now to join these noted thought leaders in a lively debate exploring the promise, potential, and challenges of augmented and virtual reality: Please RSVP now for the next Technology Salon San Francisco, where we'll have Oculus Rift and HTC Vive headsets on hand to experience first-hand the empathy-building power of virtual reality and help us better answer questions like:
  • How can we ensure ethical and respectful augmented and virtual reality filming?
  • What are the new power dynamics introduced with AR and VR?
  • Who is innovating the most and what are they learning?
  • How can smaller organizations leverage VR with their limited resources?
  • What are the best applications of VR beyond fundraising and development? The most dangerous?
Please RSVP now to join 35 social impact and technology professionals in the Bay Area, to share and explore the potential of improving realities through virtual and augmented realities.

We’ll have coffee and breakfast treats for a morning rush, but seating is limited to ensure an intimate discussion. Be sure to RSVP quickly. Once we reach our 35-person capacity there will be a waiting list!
