How Can We Use Machine Learning to Achieve the SDGs?

Please RSVP Now for Tech Salon Bangkok
Bangkok - January 12th - RSVP Now
The current pace of global geopolitical, economic and technological change has left many of our countries, institutions and citizens wondering what happened.

The coincidence of such dramatic shifts with the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) places particular onus on international development organizations to achieve new levels of efficiency, integrated thinking, collaboration and sharing of essential information.

From climate change to public health, and from clean water and sanitation to peace, justice and human rights, deeply ingrained silos must be undone for the cohesive approaches of the SDGs to succeed.

The arrival of a particular innovation – machine learning – may be occurring at just the right time to unlock the complexities of interactions among and between the 17 SDGs and their 169 specific targets.

Can lateral thinking by computers help us to distinguish important connections between distantly related development topics and issues; to join the dots in ways that even our most learned expert groups couldn't see?

Please RSVP now to join the next Technology Salon Bangkok as we explore how we can potentially use machine learning to:
  • Overcome the super-fragmented nature of sustainable development and humanitarian action.
  • Promote active listening and dialogue in search of novel productive solutions.
  • Bridge gaps between silos by promoting broad-based ‘issue literacy’.
  • Avoid information ‘filter bubbles’ imposed by some of our most popular information platforms.
Our discussion will be led by Dr Tim France, Managing Director at Inis Communication, who has over 25 years experience with the largest international development organizations, including the WHO. He will describe a new SDG-focused briefing platform that has been four years in the making.

We’ll have hot coffee and catered breakfast treats for a morning rush, but seating is limited, so please RSVP now to join in the discussion. Once we reach our 30-person capacity there will be a waiting list!

About the Technology Salon

The Technology Salon™ is an intimate, informal, and in person, discussion between information and communication technology experts and international development professionals, with a focus on both:
  • technology's impact on donor-sponsored technical assistance delivery, and
  • private enterprise driven economic development, facilitated by technology.
Our meetings are lively conversations, not boring presentations. Attendance is capped at 35 people - and frank participation with ideas, opinions, and predictions is actively encouraged.

It's also a great opportunity to meet others motivated to employ technology to solve vexing development problems. Join us today!
