Can Data-Infused Impact Storytelling Increase Development Outcomes?

Technology Salon San Francisco
Redwood City - October 24 - RSVP Now
Stories shape our lives. A well-told story can drive movements and effect real change.

For example, a single movie, Blackfin, caused such a sensation that Sea World is now phasing out live animal shows in all its parks. In Brazil, another movie used controversial storytelling tactics to finally spur the government to protect the endangered Amazonian pink dolphins after years of inaction.

Impact storytelling like this is only getting more influential with an abundance of experience-enhancing technologies that can help move causes from locally effective to world changing at Internet speeds. These advances bring us to two questions:
  • Are investors, tech billionaires, VCs, and philanthropists willing to invest in impact storytelling?
  • How can we show enough ROI for content that features issues in developing countries?
Please RSVP now to join your peers in a no-nonsense discussion of the challenges of effective impact mission sharing, the need for more collaboration across sectors, and the inspirational examples of data and visualization infused storytelling that both moves hearts and minds to take action.

Our debate will feature these thought leaders at the forefront of impact storytelling: Please RSVP now to join them in a lively debate seeking answers to the following questions:
  • What’s the potential when technology and storytelling are aligned?
  • What are the biggest barriers to better storytelling in the impact sector?
  • Where are incentives misaligned between cause marketing for corporations and impact storytelling for nonprofits?
  • How can venture philanthropy support storytelling that moves people to action for social good in developing countries?
  • What are some examples of impact storytelling we can aspire to?
  • How can we ensure that local voices and indigenous traditions are central in the stories we share?
We’ll have coffee and breakfast treats for a morning rush, but seating is limited to ensure an intimate discussion. Be sure to RSVP quickly. Once we reach our 35- person capacity there will be a waiting list!
