WHY JOIN THE PTA?
When you join the Lawton PTA each year, you become part of the largest child-advocacy association in the state, and you show your support for all that the Lawton PTA does collectively to help our children, families, and school.

PTA membership funds support PTA activities at the National, State, and City levels, with the remaining portion of funds covering the cost of trainings, insurance, banking, and general administration expenses here at Lawton.

Joining the PTA supports all of these PTA activities, strengthens parent and teacher involvement at Lawton, and allows you to vote on important issues to decide how you want PTA funds allocated to support Lawton Elementary programs and resources.

Click HERE to purchase your membership!
  • Family memberships are $25.
  • Single memberships are $15.
  • For $10, you can purchase a membership for a Lawton teacher.
FEATURED DOLPHIN: JOE VOLK
Joe Volk is one of Lawton’s newest playground/lunch supervisors and is also Ms. Volk’s younger brother!

He recently graduated from UW with philosophy and microbiology degrees. Joe is having a blast working with all of the Lawton kids and working on learning everyone’s names! He especially loves joining in the recess games. Look for him on the playground or in the lunch room!

Welcome to Lawton, Joe!
PE BIKE UNIT: 3RD - 5TH GRADERS
DON'T FORGET LABELED HELMETS!
If you brought your bike helmet home over the weekend, don't forget to bring it this week! Hairnets and helmets will be provided for students without helmets.

The Cascade Bicycle Club is partnering with Lawton to provide this wonderful program for our kids. Click here to learn more.

Parent volunteers are greatly needed during this unit, so please contact Ms. Volk to help! She will be happy to coordinate with you based on availability and your child(ren)/s PE schedule.
ADVOCACY: FIREARMS

Firearms are the second leading cause of death among children and teens, with nearly 1,700 young lives lost to gun-related homicide every year. School safety is a crucial component of effective learning, and a core tenet of the National PTA. Join National PTA in urging Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to bring the Background Check Expansion Act to the floor for a vote and to support its passage. GRADE-SPECIFIC FACEBOOK GROUPS
Did you know that we have closed Facebook groups for grades K-4? This started years ago when the parents of the current 4th graders decided they wanted to connect before the start of their kindergarten year.

NEWS FROM NURSE SOMI
Hello, Lawton Families!

I will be at Lawton Elementary on Tuesdays and Thursdays this year! My hours are from 7:25 am – 3:00 pm but I’m happy to schedule anything after 3:00 pm to meet with parents about health plans, questions, etc.
  • I have a scheduled absence on Thursday, 10/3/19 – I’m getting married!
  • Many families received letters from health services about immunizations. Please feel free to turn in those forms in to me or ask me any questions about those. They will be processed much faster going through me than through central health services.
  • It’s that time again for vision and hearing screenings! K-3 and 5th graders get screened every year for vision and hearing. They are done by me at Lawton. Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.
  • There will be another flu clinic at Lawton Elementary on Tuesday, October 15th from 7:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The flu vaccine is free with most insurances and information and consent forms are available in the nurse’s office.

In Health,

COMMUNITY NEWS/OPPORTUNITIES
FREE BARRE3 CLASS FOR LAWTON PARENTS - TOMORROW
Hey! If your kids attend Lawton Elementary, this FREE event is for you! Come to Barre3 Ballard for a 60-minute class knowing that you belong. Barre3 is a full body, balanced workout that combines strength conditioning, cardio and mindfulness. What we love about Barre3 is that we are for everyone. We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to exercise. Instead, we empower each individual to modify postures and develop body awareness for lasting results. Bring a water bottle and your enthusiasm. We'll bring the music, motivation, and the fun. We can't wait to see you!
