The Board of Thorncliff Community League wishes each of you a very happy Christmas celebration!  May your homes be filled with laughter and every good thing!  And may the year 2020 be filled with purpose and fulfillment.

The Hidden Gem
Thorncliff Community has one of the best skating rinks in west Edmonton!  Our rink was one of the first to open this season and is now open every day, with lights on until 10pm.  The "Thanks" for this rink goes to Randy Niederhaus and his skilled and dedicated commitment.  The main rink is open for twirling, spinning, learning to skate and romantic curves and swerves.  No pucks or sticks are permitted.  Hockey games and broomball can played on the basketball court which contains the hockey nets (but is not flooded). Special thanks to Thorncliffe Elementary School which continues to provide the water and electricity for the rink.

Thorncliff Community League invites you to come for some winter fun on the Family Day weekend.  There will be bonfires, skating, broomball, cookies, hot drinks and a visit from our Community Mascot.  Bring your family, and your neighbours to this free event for all residents of Thorncliff.

Welcome Daniel Wako to the TCL Board!

We are pleased to introduce Daniel Wako, our newest member of the TCL Board and our new Social Director.

"At age nine I immigrated with my family from Nairobi, Kenya to Edmonton. Since then my life has been split between the cities. I have completed my B. Commerce degree from The Kings University in Canada and three years of Software Engineering from Baraton University in Kenya. I intentionally worked in various industries to get a holistic view of business and their respective industries. I hope to apply many of the skills I have learned to community building here in Thorncliff.

I have witnessed the potential a community league has to impact and change the lives of its residents when it is done systematically and professionally. Community development, Entrepreneurship and Stewardship have always been passions of mine.

While in Kenya I stumbled upon an African philosophy called "Ubuntu". The word can be roughly translated into “A person is a person through other people” or “the quality of being human”. I believe we have the opportunity in Thorncliff to build an "Ubuntu" community that create positive experiences within our local community and extend to our city as well."

We give our best wishes to Joel and Nancy Robinson and family as they relocate to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, where Joel begins a new position.  Joel volunteered with the Board in during the past year and was serving as the Volunteer Coordinator.
There is a new app!  NextDoor is a our community app that allows you to share real time information on what is going on in our community.  It is a free download from the App Store.  Our community network is growing and getting stronger.  Be one of the first 5 people to sign on and TCL will treat you to coffee and dessert at "Cake and Dessert Cafe" in Thorncliff.
