5 Things For You to do BEFORE Summer Ends!

5) Enjoy the taste of fresh garden produce!
Thorncliff Community Gardens are bursting with garden fresh carrots, beets, zucchini's and more.  Come by the gardens on Thursday nights or anytime you see someone there and we would be happy to share with you a taste of summer. To find out how you can join the Thorncliff Community Garden, please call Randy at 780-405-8866 or write to us at

4) Take a walk on Edmonton's extensive trail system!
Did you know that Arrowhead Trail runs right through the middle of our community?  Arrowhead Trail is a great connector route to the river valley!  For walking routes in Thorncliff and nearby communities are mapped out and measured for distance. Click here.

3) Give it a kick at a drop in Soccer game.
Free Summer Drop-in Family Soccer Program on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. for children age 6 to adult in Thorncliff Park east soccer fields. There are 3 weeks remaining!

2) Fill your belly at a Free Community BBQ!
It isn't really summer until you have enjoyed a free BBQ and we have already had two in Thorncliff Park this summer!  But don't worry if you missed those ones....THERE IS ONE MORE! TCL will be hosting an end of summer BBQ on Thursday, September 5 in honour of our youth.  Please plan to join us between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. for some tasty  food and beverages courtesy of the Thorncliff Community League. Bring your entire family. Everyone is welcome!

1) Meet a Neighbour!
We all know what happens next....winter!  We run from our warm cars to our warm homes and hardly see our neighbours let alone greet them.  Meeting your neighbours is a great way to increase the security of your own home and your community.  Just say, "Hello'.

Here's the really good news!  You can do all these things within our own community!!

Thursday, October 24
(Time and Location to be announced)

Community Matters - Keeping You Informed

The Thorncliff Community League has a representative on the LRT Valley Line West Citizen Working Group. The committee monitors a number of issues of particular interest to Thorncliff residents. Subjects included the protection of trees on 87 Avenue, post-opening LRT parking proposals (a form of resident only parking will likely be implemented), and a report on neighbourhood shortcutting strategies. While shortcutting is not a huge problem in Thorncliff, speeding is. TCL's Civic Committee will monitor the situation but welcomes any observations and comments. Please contact us at

On behalf of the Rink Demolition Team and the Board of Directors, we are pleased to report that the final phase of the decommission of the Thorncliff skating rink was completed on Saturday, July 6.  We commend the Thorncliff volunteers for their professionalism, expertise, and efficiency in completing Phases 1 and 2: Doug, the Chair of the Rink Redevelopment Project and Randy, TCL President, and their skilled team members Aldo, Alex, Glen, and Rick.

Where is the Thorncliff Community League?

TCL doesn't have a community hall but we do manage and maintain the multi-purpose area of Thorncliff Park, located on the grounds between Thorncliffe School and St. Justin's School.  The land is owned by the City of Edmonton but managed and maintained by the Thorncliff Community League (TCL). That's where you'll find TCL volunteer members most of the time hosting community programs and events year round at the skating rink, basketball court, community garden, model car race track, and the soccer fields.

So what then, you may ask, is our relationship with the Thorncliffe School? The Thorncliff Community League and Thorncliffe School partner in numerous ways to make life better for residents of all ages in the Thorncliff community; however, we both operate independent of one another.  TCL is a member in good standing with the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues.

Have you visited the TCL Website website lately? Take a moment check us out. You might be surprised at all the activity lead by TCL that's going on right here in your neighbourhood.
