Featuring Ranchi Bible Ashram

The fifth Bible Ashram was formally inaugurated on 13 November 2011 though the work began in April that year. This strategic centre was established to take the vision forward in Jharkhand and the four states of Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and Chattisgarh.

Jharkhand has a population of 27 million in 18 districts with a Christian population of 4.06%.

Two properties of 12,000 sq.ft. were purchased for the Bible Ashram.
The Bible Bhavan Christian Fellowship Church meets every Sunday.

The Ashram has been instrumental in training 824 men and women through the various courses till May this year.

Ram Raj David

Ramraj was born in a Dalit family, the lowest caste group in India. As a child he faced social persecution and was also witness to the ladies being abused in his village which led to much bitterness towards the high caste people. He joined the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) in 1989 for his safety and to protect the other villagers. The high caste leaders were making plans to kill him.

One day, as he was sitting in his regional office, a former student of DBI Jagjeevan Bharti came and told him of a God who had been humiliated and oppressed like him. This God chose His disciples from the wretched and poor and suffered excruciating pain and gave his life though he was blameless. Ramraj was touched listening to this and he says “As a Dalit I was of no worth in society but Jesus came to die for me. Christianity has given me everything; I am now a child of the most High God. After much consideration, I became a Christian on 30th December 1993”.

Wanting to know more about Jesus and His Word, he joined the Christian Foundations Course at DBI and later did the one year Ashram Bible Course. Ramraj confesses “I used to be a very angry man, now I am a different man. Pastor Isaac Shaw has played a very vital role to make me a true disciple of Christ and has been mentoring me”. Ramraj obeyed the Lord in water baptism on 30 April 1997 and took on the name of Ramraj David. He has been serving in DBI since 1997.

Sharing of his work in DBI he says “I train students and mentor missionaries who are in the field while planting churches. According to the vision of DBI, the Lord enabled me to lead the first Bible Ashram in Dehradun from 2006-07 and the second Bible Ashram of DBI in Lucknow from 2007 to 2011.”

Ramraj is now the Regional Director and the Pastor of the Ranchi Bible Ashram. Ramraj desires to be a pioneer of all the 12 centers that DBI envisions to open in North India.

Ram Raj is married to Lakhwanti and they have four children Esther, Caleb, Sarah and Deborah.
