IGFSA Newsletter

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) brings people together from all stakeholder groups as equals, in discussions on issues relating to the Internet. The IGF is inclusive and anyone can participate.

The Internet Governance Forum Support Association (IGFSA) is set up to support the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF). The goal of the IGFSA is to provide stable and sustainable support for the IGF Secretariat and to fund related activities. The IGFSA was launched on 1 September 2014 at the ninth IGF meeting in Istanbul, Turkey. To-date, the IGFSA has contributed USD 290,000 to the UN IGF Trust Fund, and contributed a total of USD 497,000 to 145 National IGFs, and 47 Regional IGFs since 2014.

Brian Cute is one of our 2021 incoming IGFSA Executive members. Access is still the hot topic for him, he talks about how COVID-19 has shown all of us the importance of having access to the Internet.

Brian also shares his thoughts on about how credibility and engagement can help keep the IGF relevant 5, 10 years into the future. For individual impact, Brian encourages a "commitment to the bigger picture" and for us to keep on participating from our respective points of view. In his view, this participation of all stakeholders can "create over time, a balanced, transparent, open and informed Internet Governance future".

Rajnesh Singh, chair of the Multistakeholder Steering Group for the Asia Pacific Regional IGF (APrIGF) talks about listening to what is not being said at Internet Governance meetings, bringing missing voices to the dialogues and to ensure many diverse voices are part of the conversations.

He hopes that: "Internet Governance the local, national, regional and global level continue to evolve and continue to serve the wider community and the wider Internet"

APrIGF 2021 will be hybrid meeting held in Kathmandu, Nepal and virtually from 27-30 Sept
