MR340 Finish Line!

We've enjoyed hearing the stories of grit and superhuman strength from the 602 paddlers that got to experience the Missouri River in all her glory a few weeks ago now.  403 boats started the race, and 309 boats finished if that tells you anything!  Congrats to all of our participants that gave it their all!

With a relatively low river, it was not a year where many records were set (although Woman SUP Solo winner Lauren Rodriquez knocked more than 3 hours off her record - 49:31!).

Once again the highlight was all of the amazing people involved, from the racers out there on the river, to the volunteers on safety boats and boat ramps, to the amazing ground crews taking care of their loved ones and friends. Thanks to all of you for making a really memorable race on our favorite river!  You are the heart of this event, which might explain why so many keep coming back year after year.

Read More: As part of registering for the race, participants are set-up with a fundraising page.  We are blown away by this community's generosity.  Over $60,000 was raised by participants to support Missouri River Relief!

A Big Muddy Thanks to all of Our Many Wonderful Sponsors, for supporting the race and Missouri River Relief in so many ways.  Our title sponsor, Missouri American Water has just been the best partner to work with, helping with everything from cash, to volunteers, to prepping the  whole finish line scene to making our mission to connect people to this mighty river possible.

Who's ready for the 18th Annual MR340? Dates are planned for Aug. 1st - 4th, with race check-in July 31.

Registration opens January 1st, 2023.  SYOTR!

"Mornings at the River" Finishes its Second Year!

Mornings at the River, an early childhood event program for families wrapped up on Thursday, June 30 to much success. Designed for children ages 0 to 5, the program created opportunities for little ones and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers to spend one-on-one time exploring and making memories together at the Missouri River under the cottonwood trees of Cooper’s Landing.

Many families attended and our staff and volunteers were thrilled to greet faces both familiar and new. In total, 867 individuals attended Mornings at the River over the course of our six days. We would like to extend a Big Muddy thank you to the 138 volunteers who donated a collective total of 690 hours of their summer to help set up, lead and break down each event.

A Big Muddy Thanks to our "Mornings" Volunteers!

Many thanks to Boone Electric Community Trust, Carol Grove, AmeriCorps, UST Gear, First Chance for Children and Cooper's Landing Riverside Resort & Marina for supporting this program.

Check out our photo collection to see the best Mornings at the River 2022 had to offer!

"The Clean Water Act is 50! Let's Make it Even Better"

Presentation by Missouri Confluence Waterkeeper Director, Rachel Bartels and Great Rivers Environmental Law Center Staff Attorney Bob Menees

In October 1972, the U.S. passed the Clean Water Act. It was a game-changer for the waters of our country, for the first time making it unlawful for any person to discharge any pollutant from a point source into navigable waters without a permit. It empowered the Environmental Protection Agency to enforce these new rules, gave the E.P.A. the ability to strengthen the rules as needed to protect the nation's waters and the mandate to work with states to punish polluters and solve emerging pollution problems.

But it takes an engaged citizenry to really make this work. The Waterkeeper movement is a crucial part of monitoring the health of our rivers, pushing our government agencies to punish polluters and working with communities to solve environmental and justice issues.

Several years ago, Rachel Bartels and Bob Menees started the Missouri Confluence Waterkeeper organization.

Rachel and Bob will share some of the history and successes of the Clean Water Act and what work is being done now to strengthen the law and guard against politically driven attacks on the powers that protect our rivers, wetlands, lakes, groundwater and coastal waters.
