Welcome to our September 2019 DMPonline newsletter!

Our monthly newsletter will keep you updated about new features, functionality, and important days for your calendar.

Short summary from September drop in session

Thank you all for joining our September 2019 DMPonline drop in session! This month we were joined by Helen Porter from the London School of Economics who explained that their library only allows DMPs to be submitted via DMPonline. They have had several hundred DMPs created and have reviewed all plans so far, but LSE is now also considering including the supervisors in the process. We will be sharing a blog post from Helen next month.

Sarah then updated you on our new staff joining DMPonline (Ray Carrick & Marta Nicholson). We spoke briefly about our recent DMPonline user group which we held at LSE on 17th September and told you that we have been offered venue for 20th January 2020 in Netherlands so pencil in the day in your calendars! We are looking forward to chat to you all in October at the next drop-in!

What is to come when?

Following our user group we held a DMPonline team meeting to review your requests and prioritise features. We have posted a blog reporting on this so you know what our plans are over the coming months.

Summary from our DMPonline user group at LSE

On the 17th September 2019 we ran a user group at the London School of Economics. For the first time we had a user group with subscribers from the UK, Sweden, Finland and the Netherlands so we could look at the tool from different perspectives and backgrounds. It was great to discuss how you use DMPonline, which new functionalities you wish us to add to the tool, and to get your feedback on our future plans and developments.

Take part in GO-FAIR pilot

We have been asked to take part in the FAIR funder implementation study as DMPonline is a sustainable service through which the outputs could be implemented. It’s quite an ambitious concept to create machine-actionable metadata via standardised templates that are implemented from the outset of the research process. These are intended to be proposed in research funder calls and embedded in the data management plan, helping to automate evaluation of the DMP and subsequent FAIRness of the outputs.

We welcome your viewpoints on this. Would the features be useful for your community? Angus Whyte will attend a workshop 30 September - 1 October where we will find out more. Further information, including a video explaining the concept, is available at: https://www.go-fair.org/today/FAIR-funder

DMPonline at Maastricht University Medical Center

This month we are sharing a blog post from Maastricht University Medical Center written by Mirjam Kamps.

"Since more and more funders require researchers to write a Data Management Plan we were looking for a tool with added value for the researchers. We were aiming for a user-friendly tool with opportunities for development. That is why two years ago we decided to start working with a local version of DMPonline: DMPMaastricht."

'How to' video showing a demo on how to create conditional questions

This is a longer than usual tutorial as the demo on how to create conditional questions comes from our internal DMPonline call. We will be sharing a more official video in the following months once the feature is finished and released. We wanted to share this now though to help you conduct testing and offer feedback. The guide for how to create conditional questions is here.

Please let us know which features in particular you would like us to demonstrate and we can prepare help materials and add them to the user guide.
