Welcome to our December 2019 DMPonline newsletter!

Our monthly newsletter will keep you updated about new features, functionality, and important days for your calendar.

THIS MONTH

You will find a summary of our recent user groups, a DMPonline tutorial video explaining how to grant administrator privileges, details of our next release, and dates for upcoming DMPonline user community drop-in sessions

Short summary from November drop in session

In our DMPonline November drop in session we were joined by Dan Crane, Research Data Manager from King's College London who shared with us their usage of DMPonline. They are looking to review their guidance at the moment and start providing more feedback on DMPs. In long term they are hoping to look more at coordination with information compliance, ethics, governance - being inspired by University of Manchester. Magdalena then spoke about our upcoming user group in January 2020 in Utrecht, and IDCC that will take place in February. We also spoke briefly about our meeting with our colleagues visiting from DMPTool and OPIDoR.

Different hosting options - which was forward?

Over the past few months we’ve been reconsidering DMPonline hosting – should we move to Amazon Web Services or remain with the University of Edinburgh. After investigating options, we have decided to remain with University of Edinburgh hosting. This blog post outlines our thoughts.

DMP services unite

In the middle of November we were joined for three days by our colleagues Maria Praetzellis and Brian Riley from DMPTool and Benjamin Faure from OPIDoR. On our end Sarah Jones, Sam Rust, Ray Carrick, Marta Nicholson, Diana Sisu and Magdalena Drafiova represented DMPonline. Over the three days we had a mix of group discussions to plan the future development roadmap, as well as developer / project manager sessions and discussions with the wider DCC and CDL team on machine-actionable DMPs.

DMPonline at IDCC 2020

DMPonline will be a strong presence at IDCC 2020. Sam Rust, will give a demonstration of DMPRoadmap and machine-actionable DMPs. Magdalena Drafiova will give a lightning talk about the DMPonline business model, explaining how we balance our open source philosophy with the need to generate revenue.  Both events will take place on 18th of February. Lindsey Myers shares how University of York uses DMPonline

This month we are featuring a blog post from Lindsey Myers, Research Support Librarian at University of York.

"With limited resource it is important to seize opportunities when they arise. The team quickly realised the value of DMPonline and we incorporated it into our service provision at an early stage. DMPonline is a tool that we actively promote to our research staff and research students in one-to-one appointments, at the training we deliver and online (e.g. within our RDM online tutorial)."

Please let us know which features in particular you would like us to demonstrate and we can prepare help materials and add them to the user guide.
