OIA Conference & AGM 2017 - two weeks to go!

This year’s conference is taking place in two weeks, but don’t worry if you haven’t booked yet - there are still a limited number of delegate places and sponsorship opportunities available. UK Outdoor Industry Awards 2017 - the votes are in!

The final stage - public voting - has now closed for the 2017 Awards. The winner of each category will be announced at the OIA Conference Gala Dinner in Harrogate on 15th March.  Conference delegates will also be the first to find out who has scooped the Product of the Year award!

The 2018 Awards will be launched and open for entries following the 2017 presentation.

The launch issue of Getting Active Outdoors (GAO) magazine was published earlier this month, and already has a mailing list in excess of 5.8 million thanks to its supporting partners.

Reconomics Plus launched to champion outdoor recreation

The Sport and Recreation Alliance has launched Reconomics Plus, an online resource designed to help its members and the wider sector champion the value of outdoor recreation to the economy, our health and to creating strong, vibrant local communities. 

It is hoped that the resource will give members the ammunition to inform conversations with key decisions makers at a national and local level.

BBC Adventure Show at the OMM
In this month’s show, Dougie Vipond and the Adventure Show team headed back where it all began with the Original Mountain Marathon (OMM). Nearly half a century ago, this iconic event laid the foundations for the thriving adventure racing scene we know today.  

The programme is available on BBC iPlayer until mid-March, and we’d recommend having a look. Watch out for our CEO Andrew Denton too, who is interviewed during the programme.

Member News - new owner for First Ascent

Founded 29 years ago by Chris Watts and Siobhan Sheridan, First Ascent has long been an important part of the UK Outdoor Trade Scene. Chris and Siobhan have now sold up and retired, and having recently joined the OIA, First Ascent will continue with renewed energy as the reins have been taken up by another industry veteran and passionate outdoor enthusiast, Jason Myers.

The government has published its first annual progress report on its new sport strategy that aims to get the nation more active for the positive impact it has on people’s health, local communities and the economy.

OIA heads to ISPO

If you were at ISPO, I hope that you managed to catch up with our CEO Andrew Denton who was extremely active over the four days networking with European outdoor industry colleagues and catching up with members, prospects and other European Trade Associations. The exhibition was again vibrant with over 2,700 exhibitors and the organisers reported an increase of 6% in visitor attendance of 85,000 from 120 countries!
