FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Springboard for the Arts now supporting artists on the Kiva microlending site
Fergus Falls & Saint Paul, MN
- Springboard for the Arts is delighted to announce that Springboard is now a trustee on the Kiva microlending site
. As a trustee, Springboard can endorse borrowers, which allows them to post their business for lending. In addition, Springboard for the Arts is partnering with Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) to provide matching dollars on Kiva loans.
Kiva loans are for up to $10,000 and at 0% interest. Most loans are funded by 20% friends and family and 80% the Kiva community. Bringing artists onto this platform can help open big new audiences for artists, supported by Springboard for the Arts’ professional and business skills training.
“We are excited to open up the Kiva platform to artists and support them in partnership with LISC on this platform,” notes Springboard for the Arts Executive Director Laura Zabel. “With our Work of Art: Business Skills for Artists
workshop series and Incubator Fiscal Sponsorship programs, Kiva represents a logical extension of our mission to support artists making a living and a life.”
The first Springboard-endorsed Kiva loan is now live on the platform, supporting Fergus Falls artist Blayze Buseth. Buseth is a ceramicist who will use the loan to expand his business creating custom celebratory and memorial urns and vessels through expanded production capacity and marketing. See his Kiva page here: https://www.kiva.org/lend/1124716
"By having the support of locals and people from all over the globe it is unlike a normal loan,” says Buseth. “Through Kiva I can create connections with people who have a stake in my business and want to see me succeed."
Additionally, LISC Business Development Associate Maddy Woodle remarks, “Small businesses drive economic growth in our communities, but they face many challenges in getting financing. Kiva has created a platform that leverages the power of community to finance these businesses, and we’re happy to lend to borrowers on Kiva. LISC Small Business is thrilled to work with Kiva and local LISC partners like Springboard for the Arts to help entrepreneurs access capital.”
Springboard for the Arts will be hosting an information session on the Kiva partnership on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at 6:30pm in our Lowertown offices - 308 Prince Street, Suite 270, Saint Paul, MN 55101. Registration will open soon. Artists or individuals looking to have their work on Kiva supported by Springboard for the Arts should fill out this form
