A Sheep For Cean, Our New Co-Champ

Buy your own sheep at Heifer.org. Donate! Followers of this contest know that -- as a four-time winner -- our reigning champ until now has been SammyK. This week Samarra Khaja is joined by Cean Irminger, who has earned her fourth win with The Black Forest, winner of our contest for fabrics based on paper collages. Following in the footsteps of Samarra, who donated the prize for her fourth win to an animal shelter in New Mexico, Cean has requested that in lieu of receiving $100 in free fabric we send a donation on her behalf to Heifer.org, an organization that provides livestock, training and services to small farmers and communities around the world. So it gives us great pleasure to announce the purchase of a sheep for Cean. Congratulations, Cean!

Just Deserts: Vote For Your Favorites
Our contest this week revolves around the theme of the desert. Approaches to turning that landscape into a textile design varied quite a bit, as usual. So go, admire the diversity of approaches, then vote for your favorites. We'll announce the winner next Thursday.

Upcoming Fabric Of the Week Contests:
  • Camouflage. Submit a fabric design for camouflage. Deadline is Tuesday, August 3.
  • Surrealist Fruit. Fabric designs featuring fruit in a style inspired by the surrealist art movement of the 20th century. Deadline is Tuesday, August 10.
  • Windows & Doors. Submit a fabric design that incorporates both windows and doors. Please note that for the purpose of this contest, a simple photo does not qualify as a fabric design, even if it is mirrored. Deadline is Tuesday, August 17.

All contest entries for the themes above will preview as fat-quarters (21" x 18").

Those of you who have moved a business may know this already, but things have a way of taking longer than you think they will. We are still working moving Spoonflower to Durham. We'll post photos of our new digs as soon as the lights are on. Turnaround times for fabric orders are still much too long, but relief is in sight. Hope you are staying cool, as well as creative.
Cheers,
Stephen Fraser
