Breeders' Cup Recap
With the increased media coverage surrounding the Breeders' Cup and the inquiry in the Classic, here's a special Breeders' Cup edition of the ROAP e-news Blast. The Stewards were quick to release a statement after the race and held a press conference the next morning. ROAP continues to encourage the transparency of all steward decisions and no calls.

Reacting to strong criticism, California racing steward Scott Chaney explained the decision to allow the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) win Nov. 1 by Bayern
to stand in spite of obvious interference at the start.

Kaleen Shah's Bayern came out of his controversial win in the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) in good order, trainer Bob Baffert said Nov. 2 at Santa Anita Park.
Bayern delivered Baffert his 11th Breeders' Cup victory and his first in the Classic in 13 tries dating back to 1998, but his elation over capturing the race has been tempered by reaction to the victory. The controversy was ignited after Bayern broke inwardly at the start and banged into previously unbeaten Shared Belief, starting a chain reaction that prompted a stewards' inquiry that ultimately upheld his win. A Breeders’ Cup Classic that was set up to be a clean-cut title-decider for Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old male instead had a wholly unsatisfying ending Saturday at Santa Anita, where Bayern led from start to finish after clobbering several rivals at the start but was left the winner by the stewards after a lengthy inquiry.
Bayern ($14.20) held off Toast of New York to win by a nose, with California Chrome another neck back in third. But immediately leaving the gate, Bayern took a left-hand turn, the incident appearing to bother Shared Belief, V. E. Day, and Moreno, who was perhaps the only horse who could have challenged Bayern for the early lead. Continue Reading...
