December 2011 ~ V.2 #12
My has this year gone by fast...where has the time gone? I always have mixed feelings about this time of year. On the one hand, I have all sorts of special memories as a kid growing up of the Holiday's past, and then I think of how everything has changed, and because of the changes new traditions are born as the old ones fade into the memories of history. I recall as a child how much I looked forward to Christmas morning, opening presents and having family company over for dinner in our rural home in the snowy cold Michigan winters of days gone by. We used to chop our own tree every winter. The smell of the pine was incense for the house with its clean freshness, adding more to delight the senses of smell, as mom baked and dad lit a Yule log every single Christmas Eve. Lots of those old folks have passed Beyond the Veil and are toasting a glass on the Other Side and new, little people are born to live those childhood dreams of Christmases now and so many more to come, while new friends cross our paths. I feel the love from everywhere shedding its light for comfort and joy. I make a special point to show kindnesses to strangers, aware that their Holiday may not be as bright as mine, with loved ones away to war, others away from transition, and still others having a hard time with the terrible economy, money being scarce and spirits struggling to be shiny and bright. I dig for spare change for the Ringer's Pot, hoping the donations will help. We do what we can, feeding the strays from all the planet's walks of life, two legged and four, lending a smile and a helping hand. Every little bit helps. I believe. So, toast a glass this Yule and let's count our blessings! Let's let the 2011 year slip behind us with fond memories of everything that has transpired and know that 2012 will bring abundance and blessings galore! They say, "You are what you think!" and I think all of you...my friends...are wonderful and I feel so blessed! Thank you all for making this past year such a huge success and for being my friends! I love you guys!
Until next year...
...Wishing everyone a safe and Happy Holiday! Happy Kwanzaa! Merry Christmas! Blessed Yule! Feliz Navidad! ...and everything else in between! :)
Deck of the Month...
The Psychic Tarot Oracle...
If you are looking for a tarot that is a step beyond the old fashioned norm but still has hints of the traditional, while being visually and psychically stimulating, then John Holland's Psychic Tarot Oracle will be just what you need to create something interesting and inspirational to spice up your reading routine. I picked this deck up just after it was released, having heard through the grape vine that it was worth having. Psychic medium Lisa Williams uses this deck which is created by a very close friend of hers, John Holland, a note worthy medium in his own right. Always looking for the tools that other mediums use in their everyday practice, I figured that if other mediums were using this deck, then it had to be good. I was not disappointed.
This beautiful deck consists of 65 amazing oracle cards: 22 Major Arcana cards that represent main themes and spiritual lessons that are playing out in ones life and reflect the traditional Tarot Major's symbolism in a unique and colourfully stimulating way, and 36 Minor Arcana cards that are divided into four categories: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Each of those sections contain nine cards numbered from 1 to 9.These are also quite similar to the traditional Minors in that they represent everyday life and situations for the time period in question. There is another group of cards called the Chakra cards that I find extremely helpful and full of insight where human energy centers are concerned, as when they show up in a reading it reminds us to pay particular attention to those areas and be mindful of how these energy centers can influence the situations we find ourselves in on an ongoing and daily basis.
The main purpose of this beautiful deck is to help us to build and develop our own psychic abilities. I wondered about this in the time between when I ordered the deck and when I actually had it in my hands. John Holland has done a wonderful job at developing a Tarot-like tool that actually does what it is supposed to do: help us to explore the inner areas of our psyche and how they relate with the greater whole that is psychic intuition. If one uses this deck on a regular basis, it really can help one to explore the intuitive realms of the mind. May I suggest that you leave all of your expectations at the door, however. This is not your average run of the mill tarot, nor is it the same ol' tired spin on the modern oracle. This deck is something better, something delightful and something that will become an old friend to you very quickly. I promise that if you give this little deck a chance, it will speak for itself. Just remember to keep an open mind and be on the look out for new adventures with slight twists on familiar images that coax out a little more than you may expect. If traditional Tarot is leaving you a little flat, and you are looking to spice up your intuitive journey...then this deck is for you!
Before I forget: this deck also comes in the form of a physical deck and an iPhone smart phone app! I have the best of both worlds! Now you can too! :)
*Tarot Tip: To keep your deck newer longer, make sure that you shuffle the right way. Hold your deck in your "off" hand length-wise (your left hand if you are right handed, and your right hand if you are left handed). Pick them up with your other hand and let them fall into the remaining deck in a riffle sort of fashion. Do this over and over again until you feel they are sufficiently shuffled and your inner voice says it is time to stop. Casino style shuffling is very damaging to any kind of card deck as it bends them and wears the edges prematurely, as well as running the risk of bending the cards. Take good care of your cards and they will certainly take good care of you...
Chalcedony Zodiac: Capricorn ~ Vibration: 9
Chalcedony is considered to be a variety of Quartz. It is either transparent, translucent, or opaque. It occurs as stalactites in botryoidal form, and in the lining of cavities of rocks, and in the cryptocrystalline variety of Quartz which also occurs as concretionary masses of this fine grained Quartz. It occasionally contains a small amount of Opal. The mineral was first reported in 1837 by J.D. Dana and was named for "Chalcedonius" which was, in 1546, coined by G. Agricola.
Some of the many types of Chalcedony include Agate, Bloodstone, Chrysoprase, Carnelian, Chert, Flint, Jasper, Onyx, Sardonyx, Touchstone and Petrified Wood and exhibit the same attributes and properties as Chalcedony and to the remaining forms of Chalcedony as well. Chakra attribute will correspond to the colour energy of each individual specimen.
This mineral was used as a sacred stone by the Native American Indians, promoting stability within the ceremonial activities of the tribes.
Chalcedony has successfully been used to provide a pathway for receiving thought transmissions. It can be useful for balancing the energy of the body, mind, emotions and spirit. It alleviates hostilities, irritability and emotional melancholy and further enhances generosity, responsiveness and receptivity. Chalcedony is a "stone to encourage brotherhood among all", symbolizing benevolence and goodwill, the benevolence stemming from the nurturing energy from within the stone. It has also been used to initiate "miracles" that one would, given self-limitations, would never seem possible.
It has been used to improve assimilation of minerals and to help combat build-up of minerals in the veins. It is said to cure varying forms of dementia, to rectify senility and to increase mental stability...just in time for the Holidays!!!

Question of the Month: "I was told by a friend of mine that the only way you can get the Tarot to work is to have your first deck "gifted" or given to you by another person. Is that true?" Submitted by Catherine...
While it is nice to have a deck gifted to you by another - especially if it is someone whom you love and hold near and dear to your heart, it is not necessary for your first Tarot deck to be "gifted" to you by another. As unique and special as a deck like that might be, it really is not a prerequisite for a successful relationship with the cards. And what are the chances of someone actually gifting you with a deck? And if they do, what if, as much as you cherish the gift, you find that it really does not connect or resonate with you? The Tarot is a tool. If someone was to gift you with a hammer, would it drive nails any better than any other hammer just because it was gifted? The skill of the one wielding that hammer would probably over-ride the hammer's abilities itself. If the hammer didn't fit the builder, then the results may turn out less than acceptable. In the same vein, the gift of an excellent hammer won't make a sub-standard builder a better builder. Good tools are important, but a working knowledge is far more important. And so it goes with tarot decks. Some of the most beautiful decks are magnificent works of art in and of themselves, but if they do not resonate or connect with the reader, then they are just a pretty thing that has little practicle value. There is so much superstition surrounding the Tarot, even in this, the turn of the modern millenium, that openly gifting a deck to someone doesn't happen often, and only in close circles of like-minded people and among those who really do understand what the tarot is really all about. Unless you consider "gifting a deck to yourself" as an eligible exception, I would have to say that it really doesn't matter how a deck happens into your hands. As long as it enters your life with the purest of intentions, resonates with you personally, and with the ideal that it is a tool for self-enlightenment and psychic development, then any manner of the obtaining is just a minor detail and noting more. And if one comes to you with love and respect from another...then you really are...truly blessed!
