The Ashford Town Parish

There seems to be a lot happening at the moment in our parish!  So we’re trying out a shorter version of Good News for Ashford once a week, instead of a long one once a month with various brief announcements in between.

Back at the start of the year, I agreed six key priorities for the year with the PCC. One of these was ‘Strengthening communication’, and while we’ve made progress on that there’s still some way to go. My prayer for our parish is that we be a family of churches that support one another spiritually and practically, plan prayerfully together for witness and service in the community, and release initiative and creativity at local level. But we really can’t do that if we don’t communicate!

At our ‘Mini Conference’ for local church leadership teams on 23rd October, people from all our churches addressed common questions about how we join in with God’s mission here and shared their different responses. It felt something like a family get-together – though perhaps a family that haven’t seen one another for quite a long time.

Do look out for opportunities to find out more about the ideas coming out of the Mini Conference for your particular church community. And look out for opportunities too for meeting with people from other churches within our parish family from time to time, for some face to face communication.

Last month we mentioned that the Revd Adam Childs, who is joining our parish after Christmas as one of our Team Vicars, will be licensed on Tuesday 11 January.

We are delighted to be able to say that the Revd Jo Purle has now also been appointed to be a Team Vicar here, and that they will be licensed together on that day. The service will take place in the evening at St Mary’s Ashford. Let’s give Adam and Jo a really warm welcome to the parish.
We are pleased to announce that Jacquie Stamp has been appointed as a part-time Parish Administrator. Jacquie will join Libby and Phil in the parish office from the 8th of November. We welcome Jacquie to the team and wish her well in her new role.
Jacquie, Welcome
Our PCC normally meets every other month, and the next meeting is on the 11th of November. We plan to spend quite a bit of time looking at finances, including draft budgets for next year. There’ll be a discussion about how we balance maintaining the historic character of our churchyards with the expectations and needs of the wider community that uses them. If you’d like to know more, please speak to any member of the PCC.
On Tuesday 21st December, there will be a MakeLunch Christmas lunch plus bespoke presents lunch at St Francis Church Hall, Cryol Road.
If you would like to support our Christmas dinner and present giving by making a donation – please can your kind donation go directly to the church bank account marked MakeLunch or be handed into the parish office in an envelope marked MakeLunch.  If you want to know more, please contact the parish office on 01233 620433 or by emailing – Thank You

Diocesan Prayer for 7th November
God of the Sabbath, you created and yet took time to stop and see that all was good; In all that we do, enable us to take that time to follow you in pausing, seeing, and appreciating how good the world is, and in doing so, may we consider how what we do next can change to protect what we so value. We ask this in the name of the one through whom all things have their being. Amen
