‘… forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on towards the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus’ (Phil. 3.13b–14)

September began for me with a ‘Vision Day’ for our Parish Leadership Team. We started out with the question: ‘‘What does God want our parish to be like in 2026 – how different would this be from now?’ Having shared our responses to that, we went on to explore together a vision for our parish five years from now, and what kind of priorities would follow from it. More on that another time!

The global pandemic that continues to unfold has taught us to be cautious about making plans for the future. Some humility about the limits of our knowledge and control is a good thing. James has some stern words on this subject in his letter: ‘Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a town and spend a year there, doing business and making money.” Yet you do not even know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say........

‘Foundations for Growth’ is a new four-session course for home groups across the Parish. It has been produced by the Mission Action Planning Coordinating Group, and each session will look at one of the four ‘foundations’:
1.    Worship
2.    Growing together in discipleship
3.    Showing God’s love in action
4.    Sharing the good news with others.
Sessions will include the opportunity to share experiences, look at the bible together, and consider our own responses.

We hope that those who complete the course will:
•    Have a better understanding of these four ‘foundations for growth as Christians and as churches
•    Have gained in confidence in being able to take part in each of them and contribute to them
•    Be encouraged to reflect on their own gifts and calling as Christians
•    Be better able to contribute to Mission Action Planning, including the focus this autumn on identifying priorities and goals over the next five years for our parish as a whole and for each of our churches.

We are encouraging home groups.........

Week beginning 5th September
Lord God we give thanks to all who have taught and guided us, have shared their faith and set us good examples.   We ask your blessing on all schools and colleges in the parish as the new academic year begins. May they be places where a love of learning can flourish and each individual’s potential be realised.  Amen.

Please pray for Sophie as she begins her work as Parish Mission Enabler – that she would be able to establish good relationships with the different people she meets and build a good understanding of our town and our churches.

Please pray also for Caroline and Nigel as they come to the end of their time at Kingsnorth and prepare for a new chapter in their life together.
