GOOD NEWS FOR ASHFORD
TEAM RECTOR'S MESSAGE - JULY

Finding our Passion

I’ve really enjoyed being with each of our Sunday morning congregations over the past couple of months. I’ve been preaching about what we’ve learnt so far through Mission Action Planning and inviting all present to complete the sentence: ‘The three things we should be most passionate about in Ashford Town Parish are…’

I’m very grateful to everyone who took the time to fill out the sheet about this and return it to me. The Mission Action Planning Coordinating Group will be looking carefully at the responses, including the comments and suggestions that some people made on their forms. If you’ve not got round to sending me yours yet – it’s not too late, but please do it soon!

We offered fourteen possible phrases for completing the sentence and a space where you could add your own. These are some of the headlines based on the 132 people who’ve shared their forms with me so far..........

FOUNDATIONS FOR GROWTH

As part of Mission Action Planning this year, in September we will be making available a short course for small groups across the parish. It’s called ‘Foundations for Growth’ and will comprise four sessions designed to help us go deeper in worship and mission.

We hope that existing groups will consider incorporating this material into their plans for the time between September and Christmas. We’re also preparing to set up new groups to enable as many people as possible to take part.

Look out for more details in early September!

CALLING ALL TECHIES!

All of our churches in the parish have individual sound systems and we are looking to put a team together to operate these systems at the occasional offices (in particular weddings and funerals).

While this group is going to be designed to be shared as a resource over the entire parish, we need to start with Great Chart from the outset.

If you would like to know more details and the modest fees that are involved or perhaps even join the parish Technology Team, please contact Phil Sibbald on 01233 620433 or phil.sibbald@ashfordchurches.co.uk

PRAYING WITH AND FOR ONE ANOTHER

W/C 9th August
  • Loving God, as the school holidays begin we pray for the holiday camps and activities provided for families around the parish.  In particular, we pray for all involved with Make Lunch, that the food and fellowship will be a blessing and reflect the abundant love you have for all your children
  • Lord, we pray for young people especially at this time of summer holidays, giving thanks for their energy and enthusiasm. May we appreciate the special gifts and insights they bring and offer a safe environment for them to flourish.
  • We give thanks and pray for all couples across the parish preparing to be married. That their hopes are realised and their love for each other deepen and grow so they may be examples to every one of God’s great love.

W/C 16th August
  • Prayers for the building work currently being done to conserve the ancient church of St Mary’s Kennington built for God’s glory, and for the workers themselves for their safety and skill............
