ASH Scotland welcomes new evidence review on electronic cigarettes

In response to the evidence review on electronic cigarettes commissioned by Public Health England, ASH Scotland Chief Executive Sheila Duffy said:

“I’m optimistic that e-cigarettes will help some smokers to quit tobacco, with the huge benefits that brings. But to help the most people we need better understanding of how e-cigarettes can help smokers to switch away from tobacco entirely, so I welcome this evidence review and its call for the best research and understanding to inform regulation.

“While unlikely to be completely harmless, we can be confident that any smoker switching entirely to e-cigarettes will enjoy significant health benefits. I encourage any smoker to try whatever stop smoking aid they find works for them, including e-cigarettes, and to make use of the free stop smoking support available to help them.”
