Special Event to Plan for Community Renewal

We are hearing from many groups and communities about how they are seeking to plan events to follow up with Alive in the Spirit, drawing upon the resources available. What are effective ways to invite engagement from our members? How can we best use an online resource in a face to face setting? What happens after we host an event in terms of follow up?

Ideas include: professional development/formation for Parish Pastoral Councils, parish retreat/formation/renewal days, formation for ministry groups, ongoing faith formation for small groups.

To facilitate the best use of these resources as part of your overall planning, we are offering a very special Let's Have a Yarn session

At this session, we will offer:

  • An overview of a practical "how to" approach that can be tailored to your community,
  • Time for shared wisdom/ideas about what communities and groups are planning,
  • Options for ongoing support for your community or group as you plan for renewal and formation.

First Post-conference Online Gathering sparks great ideas

Thanks to all who made our first Let's Have a Yarn. Besides the small group sharing, participants brainstormed ways they were using or planning to interact with Alive in the Spirit. Here are some responses:
  • RCIA workshops are very helpful in offering support, encouragement and ideas.
  • Keynotes have been used in faith sharing groups.
  • Challenge of introducing others to these resources.
  • Opportunity for reflection with resources esp. during COVID times.
  • Using within Parish for Parish Renewal.
  • During Lockdown - have groups together for small group work esp. post COVID.
  • Sharing resources with family group members, friends of workshop presenters, parishioners.
  • Complement what is already happening in communities and dioceses.
  • Particular resources to support communities e.g. Listening Circles.
  • 'Solo' parishioners - how to share?
  • Bring parishes alive again through engagement.
  • Workshops around Pastoral Care.
  • Parishes who are struggling aren't alone in their mission and struggles.
  • Content has sparked interest in particular areas not considered before.
  • Parish group to meet regularly to discuss what they heard.
  • Used an iPad and shared the experience of a presentation with another parish.
  • workshops will be used by ministry groups and the pastoral councils in parishes - they will provide good resources for further formation of these groups.
  • Take the experience to people rather than wait for them to come.
  • A new starting point - individually and parishes that are restructuring.
Join us for our next session, 18 August 2021, 7.30pm AEST.

Question of the Week
Are there transcripts available of the keynote talks?

We are chatting with the keynote presenters about the availability of transcripts. In the meantime, hopefully having the video resource available until Christmas allows you to revisit a talk, and pause to jot down a particular pearl of wisdom. Slides are also available from Richard Lennan's and Leisa Anslinger's presentations.

Visit our FAQ page - hopefully someone else has asked your question!

"Alive in the Spirit. This was my experience and feeling all through the Conference. The three keynote speakers and people presenting workshops spoke with so much passion about their topics. I had a strong sense that we are the church and we can make church happen where ever we are if we work together and allow the Spirit to work in our midst."

We become what we love and who we love shapes what we become. If we love things, we become a thing. If we love nothing, we become nothing. Imitation is not a literal mimicking of Christ, rather it means becoming the image of the beloved, an image disclosed through transformation. This means we are to become vessels of God's compassionate love for others.
