It has been an odd start to the year, weather-wise, with a mild winter and a cool Spring. However, foraging is well under way now and the show season is also in full swing. We shall be at Nantwich International Cheese Show again and it is preceded by our Annual Dinner where we shall honour the graduating Eden students.
As the year is nearly half way through (where DID that go?) I have added a reminder regarding subscription renewal, which is due on 1st July.
You can also read about our first evening event for some time, which I hope will start a trend. Wouldn't it be great to get our Sections active again and to have local events? If you are thinking "yes", then why not do something about it? We can help you arrange events.
Annual Dinner - book now!
You will recently have received a booking form for the Annual Dinner to be held at Nantwich on 27th July. Please send in your booking in good time and remember the deadline is 10th July. The booking form can be found on our website, by clicking the link HERE. Please complete the menu choices and remember to send payment with booking. Company members, why not make a block booking? I can invoice your company! Sponsors are also welcomed for this event - contact me for rates and options.
Autumn Symposium - 11th November
The venue for the Autumn Symposium and AGM is confirmed as Askham Bryan College near York. The college is just off the A64 between Tadcaster and York and is close to the Sam Smiths Brewery, post code YO23 3FR. The topic of the symposium will again be on Food Safety and further details will be announced soon.
Successful evening event!
The Society held its first members' evening event for a very long time recently and had around 30 people attending. The event, held at the University of Reading, was two papers from Dr Mike Lewis and Dr Hilton Deeth and was followed by light refreshments.

It was great to see members enjoying an interesting and FREE! evening and we hope that we shall be able to hold more of such events. The Society will, once again, be having a stand at the show so please come and see us if you are attending. And if you are, why not come to the Annual Dinner!!!
Subscription renewal - 1st July
Just an early reminder that subscriptions are due on 1st July (unless you are a life member, Honorary Member or joined in the last three months). You can renew online this year, by clicking into the members area and logging on with your username and password, where you will be re-directed to "renew now". If you subscribe by Direct Debit you need take no action and your DD will be taken on 1st July.
If you are unsure what to do, email me and I can take you through it. For this year, I shall be sending out reminders as normal.
