Top 40 Over 40 of the Week
As the ASID National turns 40 this year, the Wisconsin Chapter is also celebrating our experienced and accomplished members age 40 and over. We'll feature one or more per week, culminating at our Annual Chapter Meeting. Meet...
YEARS IN THE INDUSTRY -
I have been in the industry 27 years. Wow! That goes fast!
PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT -
Frimage Image – Sales Consultant; Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) – Interior Design Instructor
FAVORITE PROJECT -
I would have to say the project that was most rewarding at the end was a project I was involved in as a Design Manager. We moved a company from multiple locations into one facility. We were a part of designing the new building from the very beginning. Hopefully the lead designer and project manager on the project are reading this. It was a great team effort from the leadership support we got to the trades in the field. At the end we got a letter from the client that we exceeded their expectations. That’s what it is all about. Having a happy client! Even though design decisions that have to be made might not be our first choice, having a happy client is always the goal.
WORDS OF WISDOM FOR YOUR YOUNGER DESIGNER SELF -
Just jump in and get your feet wet! Take a position even if it is not your dream job and learn everything you can. No question is a dumb question. If you don’t ask you won’t know. If you are with a client, it is more embarrassing to pretend you know something so never pretend. Always be willing to do the tasks no one else wants to do…even take out the trash. Someone will notice your efforts because hard work does pay off. Remember it is interior design and we all make mistakes. What is most important (and what clients remember!) is how you handle the mistakes. Lastly, life is short so enjoy what you do and have fun!!
WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO?
I have a 9 ½ yr. old so quite often its Radio Disney, Top 40 or Taylor Swift since we just went to her concert at Soldier Field in Chicago!
WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE NOT AN INTERIOR DESIGNER?
I would be a professional traveler if I could be! I know…wouldn’t we all be? Since that is not possible…truthfully, I love my new sales position at Frimage Image which is allowing me to get out and network with so many professionals I have met over the years and teaching at WCTC has been so fulfilling for the last 8 years. I love seeing students grow. I love seeing the “aha! moments” when they realize this is what they were suppose to do! I love seeing them in the design community today! Interior Design is such a great field to be in! Great choice everyone!
