Top 40 Over 40 of the Week

As the ASID National turns 40 this year, the Wisconsin Chapter is also celebrating our experienced and accomplished members age 40 and over. We'll feature one or more per week, culminating at our Annual Chapter Meeting. Meet...

NAME:  Carole Syse
PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT:  Herman Miller, Inc.
FAVORITE PROJECT:  Early in my career, I got the “thanks but no thanks” call on a Friday.  As the client stumbled to let me down easy, I asked if I was about to become Miss Congeniality.  Silence, then laughter ensued.  The client reconsidered and our team won the project.  Humor when used wisely makes for invaluable project relief, helping projects become great.  Those are my favorite kinds of projects.
WORDS OF WISDOM FOR YOUR YOUNGER DESIGNER SELF:  Never stop listening, learning and laughing.  Don’t ever make someone incredibly mad at you – you never know when you’ll be working for, with or alongside them.
WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO?  My eclectic daily mix includes Al Green, Adele, Bruno Mars, the Beatles and the Blues Brothers.

NAME:  Sandy Weber
PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT:  MDC – The Trusted Source for Design Solutions,  Account Executive.
FAVORITE PROJECT:  Brett Favres Steakhouse , Milwaukee.  The management team was fun to work with, great budget and I got to meet Brett. My family got to attend the Opening Night and finally understood what I did for a career!
WORDS OF WISDOM FOR YOUR YOUNGER DESIGNER SELF:  Stay Balanced within all aspects of your life. If you are passionate about the profession of design it is easy to get caught up in working lots of hours.  Remember you will never get that time back.  Enjoy each day.

Re_Purposeful Waukesha Drop-Off

The Green Design Center will continue to accept  materials on both Wednesday’s and Friday’s from 9am-5pm at The Green Design Center, 2201 Badger Ct., Waukesha, WI 53188.

We will happily make arrangements for other drop-off times, but ask that people call (262) 446-6702 in advance to make an appointment.
RePurposeful:  An Upcycling Event will take place Friday & Saturday, August 28 & 29.  Mark your calendars to attend and start compiling your donations!

Use Your Talents To Give Back to Your Community!
Call for Interior Designer Volunteers

The Wisconsin Chapter of ASID is putting out the call to designers for a volunteer opportunity in the Madison Area. The Rape Crisis Center of Dane County is seeking interior designers to provide pro bono design inspiration and concepts for the Center’s Family Room.

The Family Room is the core of the Center – acting as the liaison between victims, their families and law enforcement.  This is a great opportunity to get involved with a community organization doing important work – you can give of your time and expertise to truly make a difference!

If you are interested, please contact for more details.
