Summer Newslettter ... August 2011

Greetings.  I hope this finds you enjoying the summer with your family and friends.

We wanted to take the opportunity to update you on our work, including our programs in Malawi and Mozambique.  Our updated report on the National Expansion of the dedicated Logistics System in Mozambique can be downloaded here from the Reports and Publications section of our website.   For Malawi, the most recent evaluation on our community health program to limit new cases of malaria and dirrahea can be found here.   We're working on another report on this program and look forward to posting it soon.  We also have recently made a number of updates to our website, including new information on various programs.  See our Where We Work page for more information.

Our work in Malawi continues to progress.  This summer, VillageReach launched a case-mangement hotline to test how increased access to information and referrals for pregnancy and child health issues can improve maternal and child health.  The Malawi team also launched a new tuberculosis program to improve the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of tuberculosis at the community and health facility level.

In Mozambique, we are 18 months into the six-year program.  We’re now deploying in four provinces:  Cabo Delgado, Niassa, Maputo and just this month, are conducting a baseline costing study in Gaza.  Our baseline research evaluates the capacity of provincial government heath systems and defines the prevailing conditions of health in the community.  Baseline reports have been posted for Cabo Delgado and Niassa at VillageReachFocus.

With our work expanding in Mozambique, we have been staffing up – adding program/field officers for new provinces and staff for our Information System Group (ISG).  See profiles of our growing team.
