Today, Friday 9th April,  as we were about to press the button to send this newsletter, we heard the very sad news of the death of  HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. I had the pleasure of meeting Prince Philip when he visited Leicester in 2002 and I remember him being very charming, very tall, and very handsome, with an exceptional talent for making everyone he met feel very much at ease. He will be sadly missed by the whole country and our thoughts are with Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family.

Welcome to Issue 2 of our Newsletter and this week our theme is ‘looking 10 years younger’ – in a week!

I know that sounds a bit unrealistic but I assure you that it is possible – just by improving your posture. Bad posture is incredibly ageing but it is never too late to take action. Many of us, me included, automatically tend to drop our shoulders and lean forward a little. It is gravity winning while our postural muscles begin to lose the battle as we age but we can effectively reverse this trend. This week I am suggesting some special workouts and exercises that will significantly help to correct your posture – and make you look 10 years younger in the process.
Posture fitness challenge

As soon as someone mentions posture we automatically sit up tall – and I can feel myself straightening up as I write this! If you think it doesn't matter just have a look at this short video where Neuro-physiotherapist JD Hylton explains why we lose posture as we age and why medically, posture is so important.
Weekly Fitness Challenge
This week’s challenge is based on exercises to improve posture. Of course, going for our daily walk (ideally 30 minutes) is really important for us to stay fit but as you walk, be conscious of your posture and keep your head up but cast your eyes down to see where you are going.

Join me for a highly effective short workout which I do regularly for my posture muscles. 

This workout focuses on the shoulders but incorporates the whole body too.

Seated Alternative
If you prefer to exercise sitting down, follow Mary’s Seated Warm-up followed by her Seated Strength Workout which incorporates posture exercises as well as those for the whole body.
If you do some of these every day you will really make a difference to your posture in a week – and look 10 years younger!
