On November 20th, President Obama announced the implementation of “Administrative Relief” for immigrant families meeting certain conditions.

The MinKwon Center for Community Action welcomes this announcement and its implications for our communities, but we remain deeply concerned about the millions who remain excluded.

MinKwon has advocated for the rights and protection of immigrant families for more than 30 years. We have participated in countless rallies and petition drives, defended thousands of immigrants from abuses at the polls and in the workplace, and even fasted and gotten arrested as part of civil disobedience actions to stop the separation of families.

Our determination for this work has only increased. And the need for our services has never been more critical. Can we count on you, our important supporters, to help us?

You are the lifeline for a vulnerable community who urgently needs MinKwon’s legal services. Our track record shows that we can and will bring this assistance to our community – we did it when Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals was announced in 2012 and we will do it again with Obama’s “Administrative Relief” of 2014.

Our response will be rapid and comprehensive.

As we reach the end of 2014 and you are considering your charities of choice, we urge you to think about the important difference that your donation can make for immigrants served by MinKwon.

We estimate that one application for administrative relief filed by one of MinKwon’s staff attorneys for a low-income immigrant community member will cost over $300.

We have already begun receiving phone inquiries, and we are gearing up to meet the need in 2015.

Can you spare $300 this holiday season to help a fellow New Yorker come out of the shadows and enter into a world of greater opportunity? Can you give $300 so that a vulnerable immigrant will have more options to contribute and give back to his or her community?

Please help commemorate MinKwon’s 30th anniversary of protecting, defending, and serving immigrant communities with your tax-deductible contribution. No contribution is too big or too small.

The immigrant community needs your support now more than ever.
