Defending the Right to Housing in Our Community

Securing a safe living space for everyone is the foundation of a thriving community. The MinKwon Center for Community Action focused on defending tenants’ rights in the month of June.

Our activities included filing a lawsuit against the Department of Finance on behalf of SCRIE and DRIE tenants who were on the verge of being wrongfully evicted, launching an anti-displacement initiative, surveying the Flushing community on the Flushing West Rezoning area, and testifying at the Queens Rent Guidelines Board hearing.

This legislation will create a new nail specialty certification program that will allow unlicensed workers to continue working while studying for their nail technician license and will authorize the Secretary of State to shut down a business that is operating without a proper business license.
