Since May, the MinKwon Center for Community Action has been working with the Governor’s office to ensure that Nail Salon owners and workers have a safe workspace, workers are compensated fairly, and both the owners and the workers have a proper understanding of the laws and regulations. In the final weeks of the legislative session, the MinKwon Center and other advocates pushed to improve the proposed bill by eliminating language that would have unintended consequences in the industry.
To continue our Nail Salon work, MinKwon held two workshops for nail salon workers on July 26. During the workshop, our labor attorney Lina gave a presentation on workers’ rights as well as health and safety, licensing, and wage & hour requirements. These workshops were available in Korean, Chinese, and English. MinKwon also created a handbook for nail salon workers and owners in Korean, Chinese and English that are available for pick-up at the MinKwon Center.
