In the Wake of a Housing Crisis

The housing crisis only continues to intensify in New York City, and city officials and residents are forced to confront this issue head-on.  While creating new affordable housing is vitally important to address this crisis,  the MinKwon Center also recognizes the importance of keeping our community members in their current homes.

For years, our legal staff protected tenants against unlawful evictions. Most recently, MinKwon teamed up with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati to ensure that Ms. Young Choon Lee will continue to live in her Flushing home of 27 years after an extensive court battle with her landlord.  Ms. Lee’s landlord first filed a case in Queens Housing Court with a completely made-up accusation that Ms. Lee was unlawfully sharing her apartment with roommates.  With this accusation, the landlord told Ms. Lee to leave her rent-stabilized apartment.  “I’m very grateful to the MinKwon Center and Wilson Sonsini for helping me stay in my home.  I hope that more people can come to MinKwon and take advantage of all of their various services as they do so much for the community”, says Ms. Lee.
