Spring is in full swing and the GRuB farm is looking gorgeous and hopeful with new life. This is one of our busiest times of year as we re-engage hundreds of youth & community members in our work and we wanted to make sure that you know all the ways that YOU are invited to join us in growing healthy food, people & community this season. Before we dive right in to what’s next, let's take a moment to celebrate some successes this spring, including:
Hosting 2 day camps over spring break to connect 25 kids with food;
Building more than 60 gardens, mostly for families with limited incomes, as well as partnering with Stonewall Youth, the Lacey Senior Center & others to build gardens for the folks they serve; GRuB School youth & veteran volunteers have played a huge role in building all these gardens;
Providing hands-on, farm & community-based education to Capital High School students in our 7th year of GRuB School in partnership with OSD;
Hiring Laura, a talented veteran with passion for the food system, as our Victory Garden Project Coordinator, tasked with re-invigorating peer-support programming;
Launching the Tend, Gather, & Grow teaching toolkit and partnering with tribal educators & several area tribes to train new trainers to educate youth about wild edible & medicinal plants and the rich cultural traditions that surround them;
Hosting a 3-Day Youth Engagement Institute for 22 educators & youth workers from throughout the region, and as far away as Alaska & Virginia!
Launching the Rx Garden Pilot program in partnership with 8 families & Olympia Pediatrics. The list could go on, but we’ll stop there…

In Memory of Those Who've Served
And in thanks for those who still do, GRuB is proud to work alongside veterans to feed our community. Many service members have lost their lives in the US Armed Forces, but the ones who lose their lives here at home, to suicide, are the ones that we all can play a part in preventing. It takes a community with open ears & open hearts to welcome veterans home. Read more.
GRuB Received the 2018 Non-Profit of the Year Award
Of course, we wouldn’t have this honor if not for all of YOU—our beloved community of gardeners, youth crew members, volunteers, donors, grantors, partners, staff, service members, interns, board members, neighbors, CSA members, farm stand customers, workshop participants, day campers, field trippers, bees, chickens…who are we forgetting? THANK YOU ALL for being part of this amazing organization we call GRuB. And thank you to the Thurston Economic Development Council for this recognition.
Don’t be fooled by our success! Our programs have always depended on our community’s financial generosity. We need each one of you now more than ever. Please consider becoming a monthly sustaining donor at any level.
