South Lyon Community Schools Teacher Open House


Thursday, October 5 from 7-8 PM

An Open House for the teachers of South Lyon--all grade levels. Click here to RSVP!
During the Open House, we will be available to take suggestions for materials to add to our collection based on upcoming assignments. Teachers can apply for a library card if you don't already have one. We will demonstrate a few databases that you and the students can access free of charge, and we will have some free books to help build your classroom library.  (Please contact the library for more details for obtaining a card - teachers need to bring in a paystub if they do not live in South Lyon.)

Dress-up in your Halloween costume and trick-or-treat under the moon at the Library! Join us for a craft in the meeting room and trick-or-treating outside on the decorated path (weather permitting).
 

Detroit in Crisis: The History of the 1967 Rebellion

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Detroit Rebellion, a five-day uprising that began with the raid of the United Community League for Civic Action on 12th near Clairmount. This program will examine the root causes of what is still considered to be one of the most significant episodes of civil unrest in US history. Presenting will be Jamon Jordan of The Black Scroll Network History & Tours.

NEW GENEALOGY HELP SESSIONS

Looking for help starting or continuing a family tree (either printed or electronic)? Want information on genetic genealogy (DNA)? Need help with mysterious names of relatives you can't place? Have other genealogy questions? Our resident genealogy volunteer can help!


For your appointment, you should bring anything you have that's pertinent to the questions you have (any names, dates, etc. that you've tracked down). Bring an outline of the goal(s) you'd like to accomplish with your genealogy search (complete a basic family tree, work on an existing tree, find missing family, etc.).

The Friends Book Room, located just inside the library entrance to the left, is a place where you can find terrific deals on all kinds of books, music and movies—and each purchase you make goes toward supporting the library!
