LITERACY TIPS WITH MARY

Ms. Mary is our Literacy Specialist here at SSLDL!
LITERACY TIP:
Talk, Sing, Read, Write and Play with your children everyday!  During these cold winter months, help develop your child's pre-writing skills by putting together puzzles together, crumpling up paper, or playing in leftover holiday whip cream.  These activities help strengthen their hand muscles which will later help them when they are using crayons, pencils or markers to write.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY INFO

The Friends Book Room, located just inside the library entrance to the left, is a place where you can find terrific deals on all kinds of books, music and movies—and each purchase you make goes toward supporting the library!

Upcoming Sale Dates:
  • February 6-13 (Half-Off)
  • March 6-13 (Half-Off)

COMMUNITY KNIT: TWIDDLEMUFF

Sunday, February 4 and 18 at 1:30 PM

Have you heard of Twiddlemuffs?  They are a knitted muff with tactile items attached so that people with dementia can keep their hands warm and busy. People with dementia often have restless hands and like to have something to "twiddle".  It provides a wonderful source of visual, tactile and sensory stimulation while keeping hands snug and warm.  We are looking for volunteers to come forward to help us to create Twiddlemuffs to be donated to local nursing homes or maker can keep them for a person of their choosing.
