Christ The King has a long history and many connections with the InterFaith Food Shuttle (IFFS). The IFFS distributes food—both shelf stable and fresh produce—in Wake and surrounding counties. This organization is responsible for BackPack Buddies and Family Food Boxes which provide food for children and families at risk for food insecurity. It also runs the Grocery Bags for Senior program which provides and delivers shelf stable foods for senior citizens in the area. CTK has teams of volunteers who participate on a monthly basis in all of these programs.
In addition, they provide food indirectly by delivering food to our other Social Ministry Partners. Dorcas Ministries, Western Wake Crisis Center and Lutheran Services Carolina are all beneficiaries of their supplies. But the connections to Christ the King do not end there!
The father of the Syrian refugee family (pictured above) for which CTK provided a Circle of Welcome is now employed with IFFS. Fresh produce purchased with funds from the ELCA Grant we received is distributed to organizations the Interfaith Food Shuttle suggest, and is the backbone supporting many of the organizations with whom we work.
During the month of March, food donations collected in designated bins inside and outside the Atrium will go to the IFFS. A list of Most Needed Items can be found at https://www.foodshuttle.org/donate-food#dropoffsites.
