The Broadview Hotel and ERA Architects awarded the Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Award for Excellence in Conservation
Team recognized for the conservation and revitalization of the 1891 heritage property in Toronto’s east-end
TORONTO, ON – In a ceremony held in the Legislative Building at Queen’s Park in Toronto, Ontario Heritage Trust presented Andrew Pruss, Principal of ERA Architects, Les Mallins, President of Streetcar and the project team responsible for the revitalization of The Broadview Hotel with the prestigious Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Award for Excellence in Conservation. The esteemed award recognizes exceptional contributions to heritage conservation, as well as leadership, creativity and positivity it fosters in its community.
“We are honoured to be the recipient of this award and thank the Ontario Heritage Trust for this recognition,” said Andrew Pruss, Principal of ERA Architects. “The Broadview Hotel has a rich history linked to the community of Riverside and we were privileged to preserve the landmark architecture of the building for many to enjoy for years to come.”
Over 36 months, ERA Architects and the project team worked to conserve and maintain key architectural features of the 125-year-old landmark, including the circular and distinctive arched windows, decorative brickwork, and the iconic tower. The newly revitalized Romanesque Revival façade, revealed to the public in October 2016, will welcome guests to the east-end beginning in spring 2017. Offering a uniquely crafted hospitality experience that mixes the history of the 1891 heritage property with the spirit of the east-end neighbourhood, The Broadview Hotel will offer 58 guest rooms, unique event spaces, a ground floor restaurant, dynamic lobby café bar and a stunning rooftop offering unimpeded views of the cityscape.
“Receiving this award is a testament to the talented work done by ERA Architects and the entire project team and the commitment we share to honouring and respecting the history of The Broadview Hotel,” said Les Mallins, President of Streetcar Developments. “We look forward to continuing our work on The Broadview Hotel and sharing its wonderful story with all.”
