U.S. Dept. of Transportation awards FIU millions to help build safer bridges

FIU will receive $1.5 million per year, for five years, for its Accelerated Bridge Construction University Transportation Center (ABC-UTC). A combined match from the state and private sector will bring the award to more than $10 million. <Read>

Going green with new solar tables near Graham Center 

Right next to the Graham Center building’s entrance near Primera Casa, you’ll see a new eco-friendly feature ready to use: four solar-powered tables, complete with renewable energy panels and fiberglass canopies. The tables, manufactured by SolGreen Solutions, allow for plug-in and charging of devices like laptops and cell phones by using renewable energy as its source of electricity. <Read>

One FIU professor and NASA’s willingness to facilitate learning experiences for universities allowed one class of FIU graduate students to get a first-hand look at that process and an opportunity to put what they learned in the classroom into practice. Martin Luther King Events 
Beginning on Friday, Jan. 13 through Thursday Feb. 2, FlU’s Department of Multicultural Programs and Services will honor Martin Luther King Jr. with a month-long celebration inspired by King’s lifelong dedication to equality and peace. <More>

Martin Luther King Holiday 
On Monday, Jan.16, the university will be closed in honor of Martin Luther King Day.  

Add, Drop or Withdraw Classes 
Tuesday, Jan. 17 is the last day to add courses, drop courses or withdraw from the university without incurring financial liability for tuition and fees.   

Panther Camp
If your student is a Spring 2017 freshman or transfer student, they are eligible to attend the Spring Panther Camp session, Jan. 20-22. <More>

Health Insurance Enrollment 
On Saturday, Jan. 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., FIU and its community partners will host an on-campus health insurance enrollment event to assist your family in reviewing options in the Health Insurance Marketplace. <More>

It is important that your student is aware of the ways they can retrieve as much free financial aid as possible. Scholarships are a form of free financial aid that is available for your student and does not have be paid back.
