Brunch: RBG's Birthday Brunch- Women History Month at Luisa's Cellar
March 15th

So... first you will ask who is RBG? Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. She is the second female justice (after Sandra Day O'Connor) of four to be confirmed to the court (along with Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, who are still serving). Ginsburg spent a considerable part of her legal career as an advocate for the advancement of gender equality and women's rights, winning multiple victories arguing before the Supreme Court

So we are celebrating her birthday March 15 by preparing a special coffee menu inspired in her decisions along with great specials and we will be playing the most recent Academy Award nominated docu film RBG.

Challenge: Smith’s Barroom Challenge-A self-guided drinking tour
April 1st-30th

Mark your calendars! Save the date! Our Smith’s Barroom Challenge is returning for the second year. Happening only in April, it will be a self-guided tour of historically-inspired concoctions, taking you on a journey to your favorite downtown Sanford drinking establishments!

But just what is Smith’s Barroom? Here’s a brief backstory: In 1887, Sanford experimented with being dry and disallowed the sale of alcohol for a time. Unfortunately for Sanford resident John Smith, this maybe have led him to close down his popular drinking establishment called The Barroom, located on the Welborne block downtown. In 1892, Mr. Smith hand wrote a deed of sale, and included a detailed list of every alcohol he sold, and hilariously, every resident who owed the Barroom a debt. We’ve transcribed that list of 1880's alcohol and are challenging downtown Sanford bars and breweries to create their own historically-inspired drinks, and for the month of April the sale of those drinks will benefit the Sanford Historical Society.
