Hawai'i Youth Head to Orlando

Forty-two youth from the Hawai'i Conference will be at the National Youth Event (NYE) next week in Orlando, Florida.  Youth from Hawai'i Island, Lana'i, Maui, Moloka'i and O'ahu will join 3,000 UCC and Disciples of Christ young people from around the nation in this quadrennial event. Volunteers Needed to Rebuild in South Carolina

Volunteers are needed to rebuild homes in South Carolina for homeowners struggling to recover from last fall’s devastating storms and floods.  Week-long work teams are being recruited now, especially and urgently for September and October.  Find out more about this and other opportunities at the Volunteer in Disaster Recovery page.
 

Demonstration Supports Local Police

Following shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge in recent weeks, Pearl City Community Church sponsored a community-wide “Demonstration of Support” for local police and safety officers this past Monday.  View photos of the day.

Hawai'i Island Workshop Supports Incarcerated Women

Pu'a Foundation will share ways that the community can support those affected by trauma and incarceration.  The workshop is open to the community and will take place on Friday, July 29, 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon, on the University of Hawai'i Hilo Campus, Ka Hale 'Olelo (on Nowelo Street, Makai of the 'Imiloa Center).  For more information and to attend, email bmenino@hopeserviceshawaii.org.
 

Faith Communities Can Prevent Suicide

“Soul Shop: Ministering to Suicidal Desperation” is a one-day workshop for faith community leaders interested in learning how to prevent suicide.  The workshop will be held on August 19, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Higashi Hongwanji Mission Buddhist Temple (1685 Alaneo Street, Honolulu).  Register and pay ($20 per person) at soulshophi2016.eventbrite.com
 

Run for Fun with Family Promise

Family Promise Hawai'i will hold the 4th Annual 5K Family Fun Run at Kailua Intermediate School (145 South Kainalu Drive, Kailua) on August 20, 7 a.m.  Register by going to the Family Promise website, or call 808-548-7478 for more information.

Gloria Imamura was called as Associate Pastor of Makiki Christian Church in Honolulu on July 1.  She was previously Associate Pastor at Central Union Church.
