Start a Website without Setup Costs

From now until February 15, Ministry Designs, the UCC’s web partner, is offering free websites to local churches that need one.  Setup costs will be waived when churches choose one of four designs created for UCC congregations.  Monthly hosting fees, which include support, updates, storage and more, apply.
 

Submit 2016 Offerings by January 10

Contributions to Our Church’s Wider Mission and UCC special offerings should be remitted to the Hawai'i Conference by Tuesday, January 10, to be counted as 2016 contributions and toward Five for Five tallies.  For questions, contact Ngu Castro at 808-791-5628 or ncastro@hcucc.org.
 

Holy Listening Enables Deeper Communication

Are there times when you don’t know how to respond to another’s pain, grief or upset?  Holy Listening enables communicating at a deeper level, setting aside judgments, and understanding yourself and others more fully.  Workshops, led by UCC minister Phyllis Meighen, take place on the second Tuesday of each month at St. Michael & All Angels Church (4364 Hardy Street, Lihue). 
 

Kahikuonalani Hosts 'Aha Halawai

Join moderators, treasurers, trustees, committee chairs, officers and other church leaders at the annual Church Leaders Event for a day of networking, learning and talking story.  This training event will take place on Saturday, February 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Central Union Church (1660 S. Schedule In-Church Visit from Building & Loan Staff

Staff from the UCC’s Church Building and Loan Fund (CB&LF) and the Cornerstone Fund, will be in Hawai'i for the Church Leaders Event on February 25.  (CB&LF is a sponsor of the Church Leaders Event.  See above, or click HERE).  They will also be available to visit churches that are planning to purchase land or building or to undertake a building project.  To arrange for a visit on February 22, 23, or 24, email leehenrychang@hcucc.org or call 808-791-5640.
 

Clergy Will Meet in Kona for Retreat

“Pastoral Care in Multiple Religious Settings” is the theme of the annual clergy retreat taking place March 6-8 at the Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel in Kailua-Kona.  The retreat, hosted by the Hawai'i Island Association, is open to all clergy.  Register online or click HERE to download the registration packet.

Ho'okukahi Commemorates Queen Lili'uokalani

The 25th Annual Ho'okuikahi will commemorate Queen Lili'uokalani and her efforts toward justice, nonviolence and reconciliation.  The service will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 7 p.m., at Kaumakapili Church (766 N. Continuing Education Includes Boundary Training and Ministry Topics

Elizabeth Dilley of the UCC’s Ministerial Excellence, Support and Authorization Team will lead boundary training (three hours) and introduce proposed changes to the UCC Manual on Ministry (three hours) at a clergy continuing education workshop on Wednesday, January 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Conference Office.  To register, email vmaunakea@hcucc.org.  A $10 fee for materials and lunch will be collected the day of the workshop.
 

All Are Invited to Christian Unity Service

As part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the Hawai'i Council of Churches and the Honolulu Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church invite all to a Taizé service of sacred music, scripture and prayer on Thursday, January 19, 7 p.m., at the Newman Center/Holy Spirit Parish on the University of Hawai'i campus at Manoa. Clergy are invited to wear clerical vestments from their own traditions.

Pastoral Changes

  • David Kieffer ended as Interim Minister of Lihue Christian Church on December 25, 2016.
  • Malcolm Carr has been called as Pastor of Lihue Christian Church beginning January 8, 2017.  Previously, he served as pastor of Heidelberg United Church of Christ in Schwenksville, Pennsylvania.
