UCC Donations Help with Louisiana Floods 

Floods over the last few days in Louisiana have killed eleven, displaced over 30,000 people and left over 12,000 seeking shelter.  You can help provide support and recovery by giving to the Emergency USA fund of the United Church of Christ.

Council Begins Assessment of Ministries

The Conference Council has established the dates of June 14-17, 2017, for the 195th 'Aha Pae'aina (annual meeting of the Hawai'i Conference), to be held at Kamehameha Schools Maui Campus.

Youth Vie for Gift Card in Naming Contest

UCC and Disciples youth, ages 13 to 18, are invited to participate in a contest to find a new name for a youth social media group focusing on climate justice.  Submit entries to the Digital Revolution Name Contest by this Friday, August 19, on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or by email.  Winner will receive a $50 gift card.

Cool Congregations Challenge

The “Cool Congregations Challenge” seeks churches that exemplify best practices in energy efficiency and sustainability.  Certificates and prizes will be awarded by Interfaith Power & Light.  Deadline to enter is December 16.


Hilo Coast Honors “Samurai Missionary” Couple

Pioneering Japanese missionary and advocate, Shiro Sokabe, and his wife, Shika, will be remembered at a Service of Dedication and blessing of their new memorial site at Hilo Coast United Church of Christ (28-1630 Old Mamalahoa Highway, Honomu) on Sunday, August 28, at 9:30 a.m.  The Rev. and Mrs. Sokabe established churches and ministered to Japanese plantation workers along the Hamakua Coast in the early twentieth century.  For more information, call 808-315-0148.

The O'ahu Association will install Alan Patadlas as Pastor of Honolulu Cosmopolitan UCC (1106 Halona Street, Honolulu) on Sunday, September 4, at 4 p.m.

Queen Lili'uokalani’s Birthday Celebrated

Various events celebrating the 178th birthday of Queen Lili'uokalani will take place at 'Onipa'a on the 'Iolani Palace grounds on Sunday, September 4, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Also, a living history walking tour, recounting pivotal moments in the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy, will be conducted on September 4, 5, 10, and 11.  Reservations are required.

Workshop Helps Churches Support Mission
