Chuukese Bibles Are Now Available

The Chuukese language version of the Bible (Psalms and New Testament) is available for purchase from the Conference Office.  This is the “blue cover” version used in most Chuukese churches.  Bibles are $12 each (plus shipping) and can be purchased by completing an order form and mailing it to the Hawai'i Conference Office.
 

Be Sure to Register for Church Leaders Event

Workshop Will Guide Churches in ONA Discussion

Mike Schuenemeyer, UCC Minister for Health and Wholeness Advocacy, will lead a workshop for churches that want to learn about the Open and Affirming (ONA) process.  The workshop will be held on Saturday, March 1, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Conference Office.  ONA is a way for churches to declare their welcome and inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons into the full life of the church.  Cost is $10 for lunch, and participants must register by Tuesday, February 25.
 

O'ahu Association Convenes Ecclesiastical Council

The O'ahu Association will convene an ecclesiastical council on Sunday, February 9, 4 p.m., at Community Church of Honolulu (2345 Nu'uanu Avenue, Honolulu), for the purpose of examining Randy Reynoso for ordination.  Since a quorum is needed, churches should indicate whether they will or will not attend to Diane Weible at dweible@hcucc.org or at 808-791-5633. Mission Houses Series Explores Evolution of Hawaiian Music

Webinar Series Covers Sexual and Domestic Violence Issues

Faith Trust Institute offers monthly webinars that help churches and ministers understand and deal with issues of sexual and domestic violence.  The 2014 Safe and Healthy Congregations Webinar Series is free, but registration is required.
 

Young Adult Seminar Explores Interfaith Cooperation

The Ecumenical Institute at the Château de Bossey will host a summer seminar for young adults (ages 18 to 35) that will explore how an interfaith community can respond to and overcome the world’s pressing challenges.  Building an Interfaith Community will be held August 4-22, 2014, and the deadline to apply is March 31, 2014.  Partial scholarship assistance is available.

Transitions in the Conference

  • Kamaiki Anakalea resigned as Pastor of Waihe'e Protestant Church.  His last Sunday was January 26, 2014.
  • Meilani McComber retired as pastor of Helani Congregational Church.  Her last Sunday was December 29, 2013.
  • Wentao Huang, staff accountant for the Hawai'i Conference and Hawai'i Conference Foundation, resigned on January 3, 2014.  She had been on maternity leave since November.
