UCC Launches Appeal to Aid Philippine Survivors

One of the most powerful typhoons in history, Typhoon Haiyan, has left a path of destruction in the Philippines.  Thousands of people are missing or dead, and hundreds of thousands of people are homeless.  Food, water, shelter and medical supplies are needed to bring immediate relief to the Philippines.

The United Church of Christ has issued an appeal for an initial $250,000 to support Typhoon Haiyan response efforts.  With a disaster of this magnitude, the UCC anticipates that it will continue to work with its partners in the region on long-term recovery efforts for many years to come. However, this initial appeal responds to the dire need of residents for food and emergency relief supplies.

Gifts may also be given through your local congregation, which will be forwarded to the Hawai'i Conference for Wider Church Ministries.  (Churches should acknowledge individuals and send one check for the total, payable to the Hawai'i Conference UCC and marked “Typhoon Haiyan.”)
