This Friday, September 21, join people of faith all over the world in prayers for peace.  The  International Day of Prayer for Peace is sponsored annually by the United Nations and the World Council of Churches.  This year's theme, "Praying for Ceasefire," focuses on ceasefire in our homes, communities and throughout the world. You’re Invited to General Synod

UCC General Minister and President Geoffrey Black invites all UCC members to the 29th General Synod in Long Beach, California, June 28-July 2, 2013.  The theme is “God’s Vision,” and the program includes celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Pension Boards and 75th anniversary of the Council for Health and Human Service Ministries.  A youth event is also being planned. Virginia Church Honors Hawai'i Senator

Senator Daniel Akaka was the guest of honor at the annual luau of Hope Church UCC in Alexandria, Virginia.  Every year the church holds this luau in recognition of its long-standing relationship with Hawai'i and Pacific Islanders.  The church also hosts a Hawaiian Cultural School that teaches young people about the arts, including hula and music. Class for People Touched By Cancer

“Communicating Concerns & Feelings” is a class for cancer patients, loved ones and health care providers to improve communications skills with one another.  The class, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, will be held Thursday, September 20, 6:30-8:00 p.m., at Kahala Nui (4389 Malia Street, Honolulu) and will be facilitated by Deborah Ball, UCC minister and Bristol Hospice chaplain. Central Union Women’s Retreat

Conference Staff Races for Cure

Hawai'i Conference Office staff, family members and friends are teaming up to fight breast cancer by participating in the Komen Race for the Cure, a 5 kilometer walk/run, to be held October 21 at Kapi'olani Park. Pastoral Transitions

Phyllis Meighen announced her resignation as Pastor of Hanapepe UCC on Kaua'i.  Her last Sunday at the church will be September 23.

Edward “Ted” Robinson, Pastor Emeritus of Central Union Church, and wife Barbara returned to California yesterday after Ted served this last summer as Supply Pastor of Waiokeola Church in Honolulu.

Waimea Pastor Publishes Book

Olaf Hoeckmann-Percival, Pastor of Waimea UCC, is the author of Alonissos: For Those Who have Believed in Christ, the End Shall be a Day at the Beach, a fictional story about the second coming of Christ and the final conflict between good and evil. Proceeds of the book will support the ministry of Waimea UCC.  Kaua'i Association Members can purchase copies of the book directly from the church for $10 each.  The book is also available from Amazon.
