 Elna Boesak Discusses Gender-Based Violence

“Listen, They Weep…: The Many Faces and Places of Gender Violence Today” is the subject of a talk by Elna Boesak, who is a South African journalist, documentary filmmaker and doctoral candidate studying religion and gender.  She will speak at a public forum on Friday, July 8, 6-8:30 p.m., in the sanctuary of Church of the Crossroads (1212 University Avenue, Honolulu).
 

Training Prepares for Senior Care during Disasters

Bonhoeffer and Preaching Are Maui Course Topics

Leadership Conference Develops Needed Church Skills

National Church Leadership Institute 2016 helps clergy and lay leaders develop effective leadership skills in an age of rapid change.  This conference, sponsored by the Center for Progressive Renewal, will be held August 9-11 near Atlanta, Georgia.  Scholarships are available to UCC members and clergy.  Information on this and other continuing education courses can be found on the Learning Opportunities page of the Hawai'i Conference website.

In Memory: Lloyd Young

Retired minister Lloyd Young died April 7 at the age of 82. He was ordained in 1972 and served Central Union Church, Imiola Congregational Church in Waimea, Hawai'i, as well as churches in Montana, Colorado, Washington, Nevada and Maine.  His family includes wife Leah and daughter Cynthia.  Private services were held.

Pastoral Transitions

  • Bill Hawk begins as Interim Minister of Hokuloa UCC, Puako, Hawai'i, on July 1.  He is a retired UCC minister from the Montana-Northern Wyoming Conference.
  • Sharon Inake will serve as a part-time interim pastor at Lili'uokalani Protestant Church for six months beginning this Sunday, July 3.
