UCC Offers Ideas for Responding to Refugee Crisis

On the United Church of Christ website are suggested ways that you can help Syrian refugees, including making donations through One Great Hour of Sharing and signing a petition urging President Obama to encourage more action from the U.S. in welcoming refugees.
 

Ghana Missionary Visits Hawai'i

UCC/Disciples missionary Kristine Tisinger will visit the Hawai'i Conference from November 24 to December 22 to speak about her work in Ghana.  If you would like her to share a mission moment or meet with a group or committee in your church, contact Richard Kamanu at rkamanu@hcucc.org or 808-791-5633 (from neighbor islands, 1-800-734-7610 ext. 633). 
 

NIN Grants Assist Churches’ Justice Programs

Program grants of up to $3,000 each are available to UCC churches and organizations addressing issues of injustice.  Funding comes from the Neighbors in Need (NIN) special mission offering received each year on World Communion Sunday. Register for O'ahu 'Aha Mokupuni

The O'ahu Association Fall 'Aha Mokupuni will be held on Saturday, October 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Pearl City Community Church (933 Lehua Avenue, Pearl City).  Registration deadline is October 8.
 

Workshop Begins Healing Process

Taking a step toward emotional healing is the focus of "Every Story Needs a Listener," a three-day workshop  for who have suffered hurt, loss or trauma.  The workshop, to be led by Michael Lapsley, founder of Institute for Healing of Memories, will be held October 2-4 at Church of the Crossroads (1212 University Avenue, Honolulu).  For further information and to register, send an email to ihom.na.hi@hawaii.rr.com.
 

Transition House Holds Annual Fundraiser

UCC Transition House will hold its annual fundraiser on Thursday, November 12, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Makiki Christian Church (829 Pensacola Street, Honolulu).  All are invited to support this ministry for women and children survivors of domestic violence.
