Online Youth Curriculum Stresses Justice

From Global Ministries of the UCC and Disciples comes R.E.A.D.Y. (Revolutionary, Engaged and Driven Youth), a new, justice-oriented free online youth curriculum that takes youth on a journey of self-discovery to broaden their view of themselves, the church, the community, and their place in the world. 
 

UCC Network Gathers Support Staff

The 2014 UCC Office Support Staff Network will meet in Charlotte, North Carolina, from April 24 to 26, to build professional skills, network with others, and to learn and grow.  For more information and to register, visit the UCCOSSN registration site. Deadline to register is March 15.
 

Counseling Center to Celebrate 25 Years

The Counseling & Spiritual Care Center of Hawai'i will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Sunday, May 4, at Waialae Country Club with dinner and presentation of the 2014 Ho'omenemene (Compassion) Awards.  More information will be announced later.
 

Summer Internship Focuses on Social Justice

The Shari Prestemon Social Justice Internship is a ten-week summer program at Back Bay Mission in Louisiana for UCC members between the ages of 19 and 35.  For more information or to apply, visit the Back Bay Mission website.  Application deadline is April 30.
 

Expert Will Speak on Congregational Development

The Episcopal Diocese of Hawai'i will sponsor "Building Strong, Vibrant, and Growing Congregations," a workshop presented as part of its Chrism Mass and Education Day Event on Saturday, April 5, 10:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m., at St. Andrew’s Cathedral (229 Queen Emma Square, Honolulu).  Leading the workshop will be Kevin Martin, author of two books on congregational development.  Cost is $30 and includes lunch.  
 

Women Find Support in Transition from Prison

"Women Supporting Women," sponsored by the Pu'a Foundation and other community organizations, is a fundraising event to assist women making the transition out of prison.  The event will be held on Friday, March 28, 5:30-9 p.m., at Kapiolani Community College’s Ohia Dining Room.

Training Prepares for Visitations

Pacific Health Ministry (PHM) will offer a three-session lay visitation training for church members and pastors who want to become better prepared to visit church members at home and in hospitals. The sessions will be held April 12, April 26 and May 3, from 9 a.m. to noon, at United Church of Christ—Judd Street (467 North Judd Street). Professional chaplains from PHM will lead the training. In Memory: Patricia Lee

Patricia Lee, widow of the Rev. Tuck Wah Lee, died March 9 at the age of 81.  Memorial service will be held at Dodo Mortuary (199 Wainaku St., Hilo) on Friday, March 28, with visitation at 5 p.m. and service to follow at 7 p.m. Memorial will continue on Saturday, March 29, with visitation and service beginning at 9 a.m. at Haili Church (211 Haili St, Hilo).  Committal Service follows at Homelani Memorial Park. 
 

Ken Makuakane to Be Interviewed on Radio

Conference staffperson Kenneth Makuakane will talk about his upcoming workshop on Na Himeni on Hawaii Public Ra​dio's "The Conversation."  The radio program will air tomorrow, March 13, from 8 to 9 a.m. The workshop will take place at Hanapepe Hawaiian Congregational Church this Saturday from 12 noon to 2 p.m., followed by a Na Himeni concert that evening.
