United Church Funds Hosts Investor Conference

United Church Funds hosts the 2014 Investor Conference in Charleston, South Carolina, on January 17-18, 2014.  The conference, designed for both lay leaders with financial experience and those new to endowment or investment management, features speakers, panel discussions, workshops and more. O'ahu Churches Hold Fundraisers

  • Waipahu United Church of Christ (94-330 Mokuola Street, Waipahu) holds its annual Bazaar this Saturday, October 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Ethnic foods, gently used clothing, white elephant, books, toys, and Hoku chicken will be available for purchase.  Proceeds will be used to support the mission of the church.  Call the church office at 808-677-3317 for more information. 
  • Kailua Christian Church (317 Manono Street, Kailua) holds its annual Harvest Fair this Saturday, October 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Homemade food and craft items, renewables (also known as garage sale), plants, silent auction and games for kids will be featured.  Also, prayers will be received in the prayer tent.  For more information contact the church at 808-261-0125.

Learn How to Create Discipleship Groups

“Back to the Basics:  Small Discipleship Groups” is a workshop to help churches understand and set up discipleship groups.  The training will be held on Friday, October 18, 6:30 to 9 p.m., at West Kaua'i United Methodist Church (8563 Elepaio Road, Kekaha).  Contact the Lihue United Church office at 808-245-6243 to reserve a seat.

Prepare for Advent On-Line

Prepare for worship this Advent by joining the on-line workshop hosted by Chicago Theological Seminary on Wednesday, October 30, beginning at 4:00 a.m. (HST).  This day-long workshop includes sharing by graduate students on the Year A Advent texts.  Cost is $30. Suicide Prevention and Healing After Conference

Prevent Suicide Hawaii is sponsoring a “Healing After” conference for suicide survivors, advocates, educators, policymakers and health professionals.  The conference, which will increase awareness of suicide and provide skills to respond to those at risk, will be held on Wednesday, November 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Koolau Ballrooms in Kaneohe.  Scholarships are available for youth and neighbor island participants.


In Memory: Tyrone Reinhardt

Retired minister Tyrone Reinhardt died September 27 at the age of 72.  Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 9, at Imiola Congregational Church (Waimea, Hawai'i Island).  Visitation at 10 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m.  Committal Service will be held on Maui the following day, November 10, 11:30 a.m., at the Kwong Fook Tong Chinese Cemetery on Kahekili Highway in Wailuku.

Movies Motivate Bible Study

Through a Different Lens: Revealing the Transformative and Spiritual Power in Movies, written by Carmen Leal, a member of Kailua Christian Church, is available for purchase through UCC Resources. The study invites congregations to show one of nine modern-day movies and then engage in a Bible study on the movie’s Christian and spiritual principles.
