The Hawai'i Conference Office will be closed on Monday, September 3, Labor Day, and will reopen on Tuesday, September 4.

Youth Camp Registration Deadline is Friday

August 31 is the deadline to register for the 2012 Fall Youth Camp at Camp Homelani, from September 30 to October 3.  Registration packets were mailed to all churches, or click HERE

Give Aloha in September

Review Your Safe Conduct Policies

The current Insurance Board newsletter, The Steward, includes articles about Safe Conduct (formerly Safe Church) policies and information about a new sample policy posted on its website.  If your church does not have Safe Conduct policies and procedures, this is a good place to start.  If your church already has these, you may use the template as a basis for ongoing review.  Click HERE for the template.


PJRC Schedules Events

Pacific Justice and Reconciliation Center (PJRC) is hosting George Cleveland, grandson of President Grover Cleveland, at several events as part of its President Cleveland-Queen Lili'uokalani Education Project.  The first takes place tomorrow, August 30, at Mauna Ala, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Click HERE to view the full schedule of events.

Recycle Your eWaste

Bring your eWaste—computers, monitors, laptops, printers and fax machines—to Central Union Church (1600 South Beretania Street, Honolulu) on Saturday, September 8, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The recycling event will be held in the church’s Punahou Street parking lot. Click HERE for more information.

Ka'ahumanu Church Fundraiser

UCC Transition House Fundraiser

Pastoral Transitions

Kalani Wong will retire on August 31 after serving for 19 years as Parish Associate of Iao United Church of Christ.  Kalani will continue as Chaplain of Kamehameha Schools Maui Campus and remain a member of Iao UCC.
Ruth Farrell has been named Chaplain of Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i Campus. She is an ordained UCC minister and educator, and has served churches in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.

Neil Deupree, a retired Disciples pastor, will serve as Visiting Associate Minister at Church of the Holy Cross (Hilo) from mid-October 2012 to January 2013. Neil and his wife, Kay, are from Janesville, Wisconsin.


MPI Seeks School President

Mid-Pacific Institute in Manoa is searching for a new president to succeed Joe Rice, who is retiring in June 2013 after 17 years.  For an informational brochure on the school and instructions on applying for the position, click HERE.  Deadlne to apply is October 1.
